Salary: USD85000 - USD100000 per year

A company in North Houston is seeking detail-oriented Tax Associate to support tax compliance, reporting, audit activities, and tax planning initiatives across a multi-entity organization. This role is responsible for helping ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations while supporting process improvements and the organization's overall tax strategy.

The Tax Associate will work closely with Finance, Human Resources, external advisors, and cross-functional stakeholders to maintain accurate tax reporting and support a variety of tax-related projects.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Compliance & Reporting

  • Assist with the preparation and review of federal, state, and local tax filings.
  • Manage property tax processes, including assessments, filings, payments, and appeals.
  • Perform monthly tax account reconciliations and maintain tax-related schedules.
  • Maintain and validate tax data within tax software and accounting systems.
  • Collect, track, and manage exemption certificates and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate business registrations, tax licenses, and related compliance requirements.

Audit & Regulatory Support

  • Support and coordinate sales and use tax audits and other tax examinations.
  • Respond to notices and information requests from federal, state, and local taxing authorities.
  • Maintain documentation and internal controls supporting tax compliance activities.
  • Partner with Human Resources and Accounting teams to support payroll tax compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to tax regulations, reporting requirements, and company policies.

Tax Research & Process Improvement

  • Conduct research on federal, state, and local tax matters affecting business operations.
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and assist in evaluating their potential impact.
  • Identify opportunities to improve tax processes, compliance procedures, and operational efficiency.
  • Support tax-related projects, including process improvement initiatives and business transactions.
  • Assist with developing internal resources and training related to sales, use, property, and other indirect taxes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts across tax reporting and compliance functions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of tax experience, including exposure to income tax, sales and use tax, property tax, and transaction tax.
  • Knowledge of tax compliance requirements and transaction tax concepts.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and tax/accounting software.
