The Tax Associate is responsible for supporting a wide range of tax functions, including compliance, audits, planning, and reporting across federal, state, and local jurisdictions. This role serves as a key liaison with external tax consultants and internal stakeholders, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and optimization of the company’s tax position. The position reports to the CFO and operates in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment.
Responsibilities
- Review and assist in the preparation of federal and state income tax filings, coordinating with internal accounting teams as needed
- Oversee and manage property tax processes, including evaluations, protests, and ensuring timely payments without penalties
- Manage and coordinate state and local sales and use tax audits
- Research federal, state, and local tax issues related to ongoing operations, audit matters, and acquisition activity
- Monitor changes in tax legislation, assess impact, and communicate findings to leadership
- Develop and deliver internal training on sales, use, and excise taxes
- Maintain and ensure accuracy of data within tax software systems (e.g., Avalara)
- Lead transaction tax-related special projects and initiatives
- Develop and maintain internal controls and documentation for tax processes
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in tax (income, sales/use, property, and transaction tax)
- Strong knowledge of transaction tax concepts, practices, and procedures
- Proven ability to manage high volumes of work and multiple stakeholders effectively
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a solution-oriented mindset
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills across departments
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
