Job description

As an Early Career Tax Analyst, you will play an integral role in supporting corporate tax compliance, reporting, and strategic tax planning across our domestic and global entities. You will gain hands‑on experience navigating complex tax regulations, supporting the preparation of federal, state, and local tax returns, calculating tax provisions, and assisting with indirect tax filings (sales & use, property, and telecommunications taxes). You will tackle real‑world tax challenges—including tax research, audit support, and provision‑to‑return reconciliations—helping ensure compliance while identifying tax‑saving opportunities. Successful candidates will integrate modern AI tools and automated workflows to accelerate data extraction, streamline compliance workpapers, and enhance reporting accuracy.

Our Early Career cohort offers hands‑on, on‑site experience in the Greater Denver Area. As an Early Career Tax Analyst, you will work across direct, indirect, and provision teams, gaining exposure to complex multi‑state and multinational corporate tax structures. You will benefit from structured onboarding, 1:1 mentorship from seasoned tax professionals, sponsorship/support for relevant credentials (CPA or Enrolled Agent), and a clear advancement path within our corporate tax function.

What Success Looks Like (Objectives):
  • Partner with your manager and mentor to build understanding of EchoStar's legal entity structure, filing deadlines, and tax software stack within your first 90 days
  • Prepare workpapers and support the filing of federal, state, and local income and franchise tax returns (e.g., Form 1120, state apportionment schedules)
  • Support indirect tax compliance, including the monthly preparation, review, and filing of sales & use tax, gross receipts, property tax, and telecom regulatory returns
  • Assist with quarterly and annual tax provision calculations under ASC 740, including deferred tax asset/liability calculations and effective tax rate (ETR) analysis
  • Conduct tax technical research utilizing platforms like RIA Checkpoint, Bloomberg Tax, or CCH, drafting clear research memos and statutory summaries for leadership
  • Partner cross-functionally with accounting, legal, treasury, and business operations to gather underlying financial transaction data and reconcile tax accounts
  • Support state, federal, and local tax audits by compiling defense files, workpapers, invoice samples, and exemption certificates
  • Leverage AI tools, robotic process automation (RPA), and advanced spreadsheet functions to automate recurring tax compliance schedules, data extraction, and GL reconciliations
  • Assist in tracking legislative and statutory tax law updates (federal, state, and international) to identify potential impacts on the business
Core Skills, Competencies, and Key Experiences (What you’ll bring)
  • Foundational understanding of corporate federal and multi‑state taxation, income tax compliance, and book‑to‑tax difference concepts (M-1 / M-3).
  • Microsoft Excel proficiency (e.g., SUMIFS, XLOOKUP, nested formulas, pivot tables) with high mathematical rigor
  • Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and summarize tax statutes, IRS regulations, and state Department of Revenue guidance
  • Familiarity with or eagerness to learn specialized tax compliance systems (e.g., OneSource, Corptax, Vertex, Avalara) and ERP systems (SAP, Oracle)
  • Display a strong continuous‑learning mindset, experimenting with novel AI features, automated extraction tools, and emerging tech solutions for workflow optimization
  • High precision with numerical data, meticulous documentation habits, and structured analytical skills
  • Exhibit clear written/verbal communication, deliver results with full accountability, and collaborate effectively across finance, legal, and operational teams

Visa sponsorship not available for this role.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, or a related discipline. Master of Taxation (MTax) or eligibility/progress toward CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) is preferred
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • 0–3 years of relevant experience in corporate taxation, indirect tax, public accounting tax practice, or tax research acquired through full‑time experience, co‑ops, internships, or volunteer tax clinics (e.g., VITA)
Salary Range

Compensation: $63,150.00/Year - $75,000.00/Year
