Tax Analyst Accountant

About the Role:

We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Indirect Tax Analyst to join our tax team. This role is responsible for managing and ensuring compliance with indirect tax obligations, including sales and use tax, VAT/GST, telecom taxes, and other transaction-based taxes across multiple jurisdictions . The ideal candidate will support tax filings, audit responses, and tax process improvements.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage the full indirect tax compliance cycle, including preparation and review of U.S. sales/use tax, telecom, and Canadian GST/HST/PST returns, along with supporting workpapers and payment documentation.
  • Collaborate with third-party service providers to ensure timely and accurate filing of all indirect tax returns.
  • Maintain and update tax codes in SureTax, ensuring the accuracy of tax calculations for sales/use, telecom, and Canadian taxes across systems and documentation.
  • Reconcile monthly indirect tax-related general ledger accounts, resolving discrepancies promptly.
  • Manage tax exemption certificates and oversee compliance with applicable documentation requirements to support audit readiness.
  • Support indirect tax audits and refund filings; prepare documentation and responses to inquiries from tax authorities.
  • Contribute to special projects and cross-functional initiatives, delivering tax insights and data analysis as needed.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities or tax-saving strategies; develop and implement solutions to optimize tax compliance and reduce liabilities.
  • Monitor changes in indirect tax legislation (U.S. and Canada), assess potential business impacts, and update internal procedures accordingly.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, with over 5 years of progressive experience in U.S. multi-state sales/use tax compliance and Canadian GST/HST/PST.
  • Proven background in indirect tax roles with hands-on responsibility for tax compliance, reporting, and accounting for indirect taxes.
  • Strong analytical and tax research skills with the ability to interpret and apply complex tax laws and regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, Formulas) and Microsoft Access for data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience working with NetSuite and SureTax or similar tax rating and compliance systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across departments, including Finance, Legal, and IT, to ensure compliance and resolve tax issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain tax concepts clearly to non-tax professionals.
  • Skilled at managing multiple tasks and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adaptable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented with a continuous improvement mindset.

The base salary range for candidates within the San Francisco Bay Area is listed below. Actual base pay will depend on a variety of factors such as education, skills, experience, specific location, etc. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Regular employees may also be eligible for bonus(es), sales incentive(s) (target included in OTE) and/or stock in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
