Job summary

IAC Group is seeking a Tax Specialist with 2+ years of tax experience to support sales/use and property tax compliance for a manufacturing environment in Michigan. The role collaborates with plant personnel and corporate finance to gather data, prepare tax returns, and respond to audits.

Responsibilities include fixed asset depreciation, incentive compliance, and researching tax positions. The candidate will contribute to process improvements and adopt new tax technologies.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Accounting; CPA or similar experience preferred.
  • 2+ years of tax experience, including sales/use and property tax.
  • Experience using Hyperion financial systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly sales and use tax returns across multiple states; support audits by responding to notices and meeting with auditors.
  • Coordinate with external consultants and gather information for property tax returns and related audits.
  • Collaborate with plant personnel and corporate finance to obtain fixed asset, invoice, and GL data for tax filings; respond to tax/ depreciation inquiries; reconcile data to financial records.
  • Manage fixed asset tax depreciation, maintaining tax basis and book/tax differences; respond to plant inquiries about the SAGE depreciation system.
  • Complete compliance for U.S. incentives, tracking obligations and deadlines; assist in negotiating incentives with state/local agencies.
  • Identify tax savings opportunities and implement related business process improvements.
  • Stay current on tax law changes and assess impact on the Company.
  • Identify and implement technology and automation improvements within tax processes.
  • Develop direct tax skills by assisting with U.S. federal, state, local income tax returns, R&D studies, and forms like 5471.
  • Assist with other tax projects as needed.

Position Specific Requirements
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly sales and use tax returns across multiple states; support related government audits by responding to notices, meeting with auditors, and researching relevant tax positions
  • Coordinate with external consultants and gather information needed to prepare property tax returns, pay property tax bills, and support related government audits.
  • Collaborate closely with plant personnel and corporate finance to obtain fixed asset, invoice, and general ledger information needed for tax filings; respond to plant inquiries on tax and depreciation matters; and reconcile tax data to the financial records.
  • Manage the fixed asset tax depreciation process, including maintaining tax basis and book/tax differences and responding to plant inquiries regarding the SAGE depreciation system.
  • Complete compliance requirements for U.S. domestic incentives, including tracking compliance obligations and reporting deadlines, and assist in negotiating incentives with state and local agencies.
  • Identify sales and use and property tax savings opportunities and implement related business process improvements.
  • Stay current on tax law changes and regulatory pronouncements and assess their impact on the Company
  • Identify and implement technology and automation improvements within business processes.
  • Develop direct tax skills by assisting with U.S. federal, state, and local income tax returns, R&D tax credit studies, and international tax forms such as Forms 5471.
  • Assist with other tax projects as needed.
Education
  • BA/BS in Accounting, CPA or similar experience
Experience
  • 2+ years of tax experience
  • Sales and use tax experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Property tax experience
  • Experience using Hyperion financial systems preferred.
