Job summary

Southern Company is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant – Team Lead in Atlanta, GA to manage income tax accounting, tax forecasting, and SEC tax reporting for unregulated businesses. The role leads monthly provision work and supervises one direct report.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in income tax accounting, CPA preferred, and ASC 740 expertise, with PowerPlan and Oracle experience. You will partner with management to improve controls and ensure timely, accurate tax deliverables.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in income tax accounting and/or tax reporting.
• Experience with tax provision software and ERP systems is preferred.
• Strong ASC 740 knowledge and ability to manage complex calculations.

Responsibilities

• Lead the monthly income tax provision process for unregulated companies, including journal entries and tax calculations.
• Review quarterly consolidated SEC financial statements and tax reporting.
• Review reconciliations, provision workpapers, and analytics; investigate variances and provide recommendations.
• Serve as technical resource and escalation point for team members.
• Drive process improvements for tax provision, controls, and audit readiness.
• Provide leadership and coaching to 1–3 team members and supervise a direct report.
• Coordinate responses to auditor requests and ensure timely deliverables.
