Position Overview

The Tax Accounting Manager position is a new role within the Kimball Electronics Shared Services Tax team focused on supporting the accounting for federal, international, state and local taxes. This position could be located at Kimball Electronics Headquarters in Jasper, IN or remote and reports to the Director of Corporate Tax. It is a global position that will be responsible for ensuring the accounting for taxes are completed accurately, timely and in compliance with financial and accounting principles.

Quick Summary

Tax Accounting Manager key responsibilities include ensuring the accounting for taxes in the financial statements are in compliance with accounting principles, such as IFRS and GAAP, assisting with preparation and review of monthly, quarterly and annual income tax provisions, research and advising on new tax laws, rules and regulations and continuous improvement of tax accounting processes to ensure efficiency and accuracy.

The ability to work and communicate with a variety of cultures, languages, situations, departments, and people is a critical skill for this role. The goal is to support, grow, and continuously improve our tax accounting processes for the organization. This requires a willingness to support and promote change, as well as a great deal of patience, critical thinking, attention to detail and problem solving skills.

Key Performance Objectives

  • Short Term: (0 to 6 months)
  • Learn KEI Guiding Principles, philosophies, and cultural attributes.
  • Develop a basic understanding of Corporate Tax at KEI including key transactions, processes, interfaces, and current state.
  • Build and maintain business relationships with Finance team members and Business Unit contacts.
  • Motivate, coach and guide the Tax team
  • Ensure taxes are recorded in compliance with GAAP, ASC740, and IFRS.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of the monthly, quarterly and annual income tax provision, reconciliations and ASC 740 schedules
  • Midterm: (6 to 9 months)
  • Provide appropriate resources to assist in growth and development of the Tax team
  • Manage the tax reporting functions, including coordinating reviews internally and with external advisors
  • Partner with business units to ensure compliance with domestic and foreign tax accounting requirements
  • Direct compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley documentation requirements as they relate to internal controls over accounting for income taxes
  • Lead the preparation and review of the monthly, quarterly and annual income tax provision, reconciliations and ASC 740 schedules
  • Longer Term (9 to 12 months and beyond):
  • Research, advise and lead communications to the Director of Corporate Tax and the Tax team regarding the impact of new and/or changing domestic and/or foreign tax accounting rules and regulations
  • Assist with preparing tax accounting memos
  • Continuously seek improvement opportunities for Tax accounting processes to ensure efficiency and accuracy
  • Provide high-level service to business units concerning their tax accounting and coding of tax related transactions
  • Manage services of outside professional service providers
  • Assist in the software selection for tax research

Basic Background Requirements

This position will require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5+ years of public accounting firm or large company tax accounting experience preferred
  • Big Four Tax experience preferred
  • CPA certification required
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office (advanced Excel skills)
  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP
  • Effective written and verbal skills
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn U.S. and foreign income tax, property tax, and sales and use tax rules
  • Ability to travel occasionally
