Tax Accounting Manager - Lead the Tax Strategy, Not Just the Returns

In this Tax Accounting Manager role, you’ll manage a book of business, lead engagements, and drive tax planning for closely held companies and high-value individuals across industries like healthcare, real estate, construction, manufacturing, the arts, and more.

You’ll work where tax technical meets client strategy—reviewing complex returns, guiding staff, and translating changing tax laws into clear, confident recommendations.

What You'll Work On

You’ll be the tax point-person for a diverse, closely held client base, with real ownership over relationships and deliverables:

  • Federal and multi-state individual income tax
  • Federal and multi-state business tax returns
  • Tax planning and projections for closely held businesses
  • Research around complex and evolving tax issues
  • Process improvement within the tax practice
  • Client relationship management and advisory
  • Staff coaching, review, and development
  • Industry trend and best-practice sharing within the firm

You’ll leverage tools like the Thomson Reuters suite along with Microsoft Teams, Excel, Word, and Outlook to keep the work sharp, accurate, and efficient.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Preparing and reviewing complex business tax returns
  • Preparing and reviewing individual tax returns
  • Managing and growing a defined book of business
  • Leading tax planning and projection work requested by clients
  • Researching tax issues and communicating clear findings
  • Identifying and recommending process improvements in the tax function
  • Staying current on tax law changes through literature, seminars, and training
  • Consulting with clients to understand their financial affairs and tax exposure
  • Responding to client calls and emails in a timely, professional manner
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with clients, regulators, and industry organizations
  • Transferring industry knowledge, trends, and best practices to others in the firm
  • Overseeing, coaching, and developing staff involved in return preparation
What We're Looking For
  • CPA, EA, or JD required
  • At least 8 full busy seasons in tax preparing and reviewing individual and business returns
  • Ability to manage and develop newer staff members
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Clear, quality communication with staff and clients
  • Positive attitude, team-first mindset, and willingness to learn
  • General proficiency with Microsoft Teams, Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Experience with Thomson Reuters suite preferred
  • Ability to learn from prior engagements and apply that knowledge forward
