Tax Accountant - Indirect Tax (Sales and Use)

Targeted Years of Experience: 5 to 7 years

Job Description:

  • In this position, the ideal candidate will be responsible for working with an outside outsource vendor to ensure all transaction taxes, e.g., sales and use taxes, are filed timely and accurately.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the accurate and timely filing of transaction tax returns.
  • Implement process improvements through innovative and creative thinking.
  • Work with automation tools (e.g., Alteryx) to reduce redundant tasks using techniques such as Robotics and designing process flows.
  • Analyze financial data from Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Revenue Accounting, and Corporate Accounting.
  • Reconcile large data sets using Excel, Excel Power Query, and Microsoft Access.
  • Review transaction tax data to ensure accuracy and analyze variances before sending data to the 3rd party outsourcer for filing.
  • Responsible for reconciling all tax liability accounts.
  • Review, analyze, and streamline tax processes.
  • Perform special projects as required, assigned by Manager.
  • Assist the exemption group with research, information needed, and issuance of Resale and/or Exemption Certificates as required.

Candidates will need to have:

  • Thorough knowledge of State taxes, such as Sales and Use and other pass-through type taxes.
  • Knowledge of the compliance process and how tax returns are filed.
  • The ability to develop methods to streamline processes and develop tax planning strategies to minimize the company's cash flow and overall tax burden.
  • The ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent work experience in a related field required.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if candidates have:

  • CPA or Master’s degree in taxation is a plus.
  • Experience with large automated systems (e.g., billing, general ledger, and A/P).
  • Knowledge of automated tax systems (e.g., Vertex).
  • Experience with SAP, PeopleSoft, or other major accounting systems.

Pay Range: $60 - $65

The specific compensation for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity, and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; the skills, education, training, credentials, and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
