RYAN, HODGINS & ASSOCIATES CPAS in Eden Prairie, MN seeks a CPA to join as a senior practitioner with an ownership path, working on tax consulting, business development, and client relationships.
You’ll own matters from fact gathering to completion, partner with the founders, and have a clear route to partnership as the founder steps back.
You're great at the hard part. You take a business owner's tangled facts, find the issue, make the call, and explain it so they actually understand. Clients ask for you by name. And what that earns you where you are is a bigger review queue, a utilization target, and a partner conversation that is eight years and three committees away, at a firm where the clients belong to someone else.
We're an Eden Prairie CPA firm that's been serving businesses and families since 1986. Two partners handle all tax consulting, business development, and core client relationships, with a team of about ten in accounting and administration supporting them. The founding partner is in his mid-70s and has stepped back from full-time work. Nobody else on the team wants to do what the partners do.
We need a third person who can, and the intended path is for that person to become our third owner and, when the founder retires, one of two.
Compensation is negotiable and built around the right person: a strong base salary plus a percentage of revenue. The posted range is a guide; the firm will fit comp to your needs. As your book grows, the mix is designed to shift toward revenue share as the main driver, because that is how an owner should be paid. Benefits include a 401(k) with match, health and dental, an HSA, life insurance, paid sick time, and CE credits.
This is a full-time, on-site role in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. If you are elsewhere and would move to the Twin Cities for the right practice, apply: paid relocation is available.
Technical delivery, client meetings, partner consultation, and deliberate business development, every week. Deadlines don't cancel relationship work, and prospecting doesn't displace technical quality. Small-firm breadth means hands-on work and visible accountability. You must become excellent at both tax and business development; one without the other isn't enough here.
Complex pass-through and closely held business work, review experience, client-meeting responsibility, and referrals or engagements you helped win are strong signals. Trust, estate, succession, valuation, PFS, or CFP experience adds value. An existing book is fine, but not required.
You're giving up the brand on the door (at least for a little while), the layers that absorb blame for poor work, and the illusion that partnership is a promotion you wait for. You get a practice that needs you to become an owner, a founder building your book beside you, and pay that grows with it.
