Job summary

Aston Carter is seeking a Tax Accountant / Senior Staff Accountant in Whittier, CA. You will manage financial reporting, budgeting, and tax compliance for a portfolio of real estate entities while partnering with leadership to support critical business decisions.

This role offers exposure to financial reporting, partnership taxation, budgeting, and real estate operations, with visibility to ownership and executive leadership.

Qualifications

  • Active CPA license required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of public accounting audit experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience preparing partnership and LLC tax returns.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, GAAP, and general ledger accounting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee accounting and tax responsibilities for assigned real estate entities.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze quarterly financial statements for assigned entities.
  • Provide budget-to-actual variance analysis and financial insights to management and ownership groups.
  • Review daily cash activity and ensure proper recording.
  • Review monthly bank reconciliations for accuracy.
  • Lead annual budgeting efforts with property management and construction teams.
  • Manage year-end general ledger reviews and closing processes.
  • Prepare partnership and LLC tax returns and support tax compliance.

What You'll Do

As a trusted financial partner, you'll oversee accounting and tax responsibilities for assigned real estate entities and help ensure accurate, timely, and insightful financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, review, and analyze quarterly financial statements for assigned entities
  • Provide budget-to-actual variance analysis and financial insights to management and ownership groups
  • Review daily cash activity and ensure transactions are accurately recorded to the appropriate accounts
  • Review monthly bank reconciliations for accuracy and completeness
  • Prepare and review quarter-end journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Lead annual budgeting efforts in collaboration with property management and construction teams
  • Manage year-end general ledger reviews and closing processes
  • Prepare partnership and LLC tax returns and support tax compliance activities
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and internal controls
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on financial and operational initiatives
What You'll Bring
Required Qualifications
  • Active CPA license
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of public accounting audit experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience preparing partnership and LLC tax returns
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, GAAP, and general ledger accounting
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA or Master of Taxation (MBT)
  • Experience within real estate, construction, or property management
  • Experience with Sage CRE 300 and/or ProSystem fx Tax

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Whittier, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $43.50 - $52.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
