Job summary

Vallarta Supermarkets in California is seeking a dedicated Taquero to prepare food orders and support cooks in a busy Taquería department. You will greet customers, ensure portion quality, and promote sales while upholding food safety standards.

You will assist with gathering ingredients, maintain cleanliness, and follow all health codes. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is required in this full-time role.

Qualifications

• Friendly, courteous personality with strong customer service skills.
• Familiarity with equipment and tools used in the Taquería department.
• Prior experience as a cook or prep helper preferred.
• Basic understanding of English language.
• Ability to work safely in a fast-paced environment.
• Team-oriented, respectful, and professional attitude.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• Exposure to perishable products, hot foods, and changing conditions.
• Collaborative, team-focused workplace.
• Must be able to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Only prepare food orders that have been paid for.
• Promote sales by suggestive selling of advertised specials.
• Assist cooks in gathering and preparing meats and other ingredients.
• Notify management when products or supplies are needed.
• Transport products to and from coolers and storage areas.
• Monitor food temperatures and report discrepancies to management.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Work safely, using tools and equipment properly, and report issues immediately.
• Treat coworkers and customers respectfully; no profanity or obscene gestures.
• Follow all health codes, food safety practices, and sanitation procedures.
• Follow company dress code; change apron/smock as needed.
• Abide by all company rules and Employee Handbook policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

About the Role

The Taquero prepares food orders for customers while assisting cooks with gathering and preparing ingredients. This role ensures consistency in portion, quality, and presentation while maintaining a clean and safe work area. Taqueros provide prompt, courteous service and promote sales by suggestive selling, all while supporting Vallarta’s standards of food safety, sanitation, and teamwork.

What You’ll Do

Physical Requirements

Stand and walk constantly (6–8+ hours/day).

Frequent bending (neck/waist), squatting, twisting, and reaching above/below shoulders.

Frequent hand use for grasping, power grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.

Lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.

Heaviest item: tray of cooked meat, 51–75 lbs., carried 2 feet.

Exposure to extremes in temperature or humidity.

No driving, heavy machinery, uneven ground, noise, or work at heights required.
