Job summary

Sacbar seeks a Tankerman to oversee cargo transfer operations aboard barges in accordance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations. The role focuses on safe, pollution-free and efficient movement and transfer of cargo.

You will maintain equipment, coordinate with the Pilot, load and unload cargo, assist with fueling, inspections, and daily operations while following the company SMS and safety rules. Weekly pay, medical benefits, and retirement plan are provided.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all equipment and products on the barge.
  • Confers with and receives orders from the Pilot.
  • Moves cargo from one compartment to another within the barges.
  • Loads cargo to the proper barge draft.
  • Maintenance of machinery on vessel and barges (pumps, pump engines, winches, etc.).
  • Work with complex pumping diagrams, pumps, valves, etc.
  • Respond in a safe, efficient manner to mitigate pollution or damage in any shipboard emergency (hatch overflow or holes in the barges).
  • Assist with fueling operations.
  • Load and unload stores for customers.
  • Assist the operator on vessel inspections.
  • Report any problems or discrepancies noted during daily operations.
  • Security awareness and reporting.
  • Chipping and painting maintenance on the boat.
  • Repairs flame screens and cleans pressure vacuum valves on the barge.
  • Greases winches and other equipment.
  • Clean and scour the boat.
  • Keep the barge clean and free of worn out or unneeded equipment.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly stowed.
  • Make up the tow and stand lookout.
  • Compliance with the company Safety Management System (SMS), and familiar with company policies, procedures, safety rules and regulations and abide by them.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Prior experience or training related to tankerman activities.
Working Conditions
  • Required to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl.
  • Required to utilize hand and finger dexterity.
  • Utilize visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information, and/or use a keyboard.
  • Work near moving mechanical parts.
  • Work in high precarious places and around fumes.
  • Required to lift/push/carry items more than 50 pounds.
  • Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions (non-weather).
  • Continual exposure to outside weather conditions and extreme heat or cold (non-weather).
  • Occasional exposure to bloodborne and airborne pathogens or infectious materials.
  • Frequently very loud noise.
