Job summary

PALA Interstate, LLC is seeking a skilled welder for multi-position pipe welding in an industrial setting. The role requires reading blueprints, planning work, and performing Stick, TIG, and Flux Core welding across carbon and stainless piping.

Ideal candidates have 4+ years as a certified welder (or 2 years as a Certified Welder with 2 years ABC training), weld carbon and stainless alloys, and pass a site-specific test. Safety and quality are emphasized in this environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in stick and TIG pipe welding.
• Experience welding carbon, stainless steel and various alloys.

Responsibilities

• Read layouts, blueprints, diagrams, work orders and welding procedures to determine work.
• Plan work sequence and determine tools/equipment needed.
• Lay out, position, align and fit components together.
• Perform welding with SMAW, TIG, and flux core processes.
• Prepare and clean weld joints; verify bead size and fusion as required.
• Maintain safe, clean work environment and inspect welds visually.

Summary

Stick and Tig welding in multiple positions on various size piping (carbon and stainless) in an industrial environment. Welder must be able to read, study and interpret job specifications, plans and blueprints; able to climb and work from elevated work platforms; must have industrial welding experience; required to maintain clean and safe work environment.

Essential Functions

1. Reads and studies layout, blueprints, diagram, work order and welding procedures to determine work to be done. May also receive oral instructions.

2. Plans work in logical sequence and determines tools/equipment needed.

3. Lays out, positions, aligns and fits components together.

4. Bolts, clamps and tack welds parts to secure in position for welding.

5. Obtains specified electrode and inserts into portable holder or threads electrode wire through portable welding gun.

6. Connects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope and pulse as specified.

7. Start power supply to produce electric current.

8. Strikes arc which generates heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to work piece and joint edges.

9. Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead. This is judged by color of metal, sound of weld and size of molten puddle.

10. Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions and examines weld for bead size and other specifications.

11. Performs Stick(SMAW), TIG(GATW), and Flux Core Welding

12. Manually applies filler rod to supply weld metal.

13. Cleans or degreases weld joint or work piece using wire brush, grinder or chemical bath.

14. Chips off excess weld, slag, spatter.

15. Preheats work piece using torch or heating furnace.

16. Repairs products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping and reassembling parts.

Required Education and Experience

1. Minimum four years' experience as a certified welder, or Two (2) years' experience as Certified Welder plus 2 years' ABC or equivalent training.
2. Experienced in stick and tig pipe welding.
3. Experienced in welding carbon, stainless steel and various alloys.
4. Must pass required welding test as required by the specific job site.

Preferred Education and Experience

1. High School or GED preferred but not required.
2. Trade School program preferred but not required.
