Bevill State Community College invites applications for a Talent Search Academic Advisor. This at-will, grant-funded position identifies eligible students and promotes education beyond high school.

Salary placement ranges from $44,283 to $70,367 with a work week Mon–Thu 7:30–5:30 and Fri 7:30–11:30. Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in education or counseling and at least two years of relevant experience.

Job description

This is an AT-WILL position for which the attainment of non-probationary status (tenure) is not available. Grant funded; Continued employment is contingent upon funding.

The Talent Search Academic Advisor identifies eligible middle and high school students to participate in the Talent Search program. The advisor will emphasize to participants the importance of completing high school and continuing their education beyond high school. Continued employment is contingent upon funding. This position is not eligible for non-probationary status.

Salary: Appropriate placement on Bevill State Community Colleges Local Salary Schedule: C3, Rank: 05 $44,283 - $70,367

Work Hours: Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Friday 7:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications and must submit a complete application packet through the on-line application system to be considered. A complete application consists of the following:

  • Copy of college transcripts (Transcript of college work verifying degree requirement; must include degree awarded and date confirmed. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted before the deadline, but official transcripts must be received if employed.)

Application materials must provide documentation that the applicant meets all minimum qualifications.

  1. Coordinate the delivery of Talent Search services to project participants
  2. Maintain an approachable and accessible relationship with participants and target school staff
  3. Assist participants with navigating through the challenges of education
  4. Assist participants with developing proactive academic/career strategies and success goals
  5. Address academic, personal, career, and non-cognitive barriers
  6. Provide academic and career advising and support
  7. Work with project Tutors and Mentors to assure student success
  8. Develop and conduct seminars/workshops on relevant academic, career, financial aid and financial literacy topics
  9. Provide academic and financial aid advising
  10. Assist with scholarship, financial aid, and college application documents
  11. Continually assess and document the progress of project participants
  12. Serve as advocate for disadvantaged students

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, or a related field from an accredited institution and a minimum of two years’ work experience in education, counseling or similar field is required. Experience working with Federal programs and working with low-income, first generation, and/or disabled students, or having a background similar to those in the target population preferred.
