Job description

Job Title: Manager, Talent Acquisition – US Field Operations

Location: Raleigh, NC / Atlanta, GA / Houston, TX (one base location)

The Opportunity

We are partnering with a large North American environmental services and waste management provider with operations across multiple US states. The business runs a network of hauling operations, transfer stations, material recovery facilities, landfills and liquid environmental services sites, employing thousands of frontline workers (drivers, technicians, mechanics, operators).

They are seeking a Manager, Talent Acquisition – US Field Operations to lead the high‑volume hiring engine that keeps their solid waste and environmental/liquid services operations staffed and running safely and reliably.

This is a strategic leadership role, not a hands‑on recruiter position. You will lead a distributed TA team, work closely with senior Operations and HR, and use data to get ahead of hiring and retention challenges in a complex, decentralized waste and environmental services environment.

Key Facts

Base location: One of

  • Atlanta, GA (major operations hub)
  • Houston, TX (major field/HR hub)

Coverage: US field operations only

Business footprint: Multi‑state, multi‑site waste management and environmental services network (solid waste collection, recycling, landfill, liquid waste, industrial services)

Team:

  • ~5–6 direct reports (Talent Acquisition professionals)
  • Total TA team c. 15–16 (direct + indirect)
  • Team manages c. 350 open requisitions at any one time (aggregate), predominantly field roles

Travel: c. 30% US travel to hauling yards, sites, regional offices and some corporate locations (expected to reduce over time as strong virtual relationships/processes are built)

  • Base salary: $130,000 USD (some flexibility for an exceptional candidate)
  • Vacation: 3 weeks
  • Retirement: Company match of 3% when employee contributes 6%
What You’ll Do
  • Lead, coach and performance‑manage a team of ~5–6 direct TA reports and a wider team of ~15–16
  • Own the talent acquisition strategy for US field operations across solid waste and environmental/liquid services
  • Oversee high‑volume hiring for non‑corporate, operational roles critical to the waste/environmental network, including:
  • CDL and non‑CDL drivers
  • Mechanics and maintenance technicians
  • Operators, labourers and field crews
  • Frontline and site‑level leaders
  • Step in at a strategic level (not day‑to‑day recruiting) to address under‑performing markets, hard‑to‑fill roles and process gaps
  • Build strong, trust‑based relationships with senior Operations and HR leaders supporting solid waste and liquid environmental services across multiple states
  • Run regular reviews with field leadership on pipelines, risks and workforce plans for key operations (hauling, transfer, recycling, landfill, liquid waste)
  • Use data (attrition, time‑to‑fill, requisition volume and trends) to anticipate hiring and retention issues and drive proactive solutions
  • Travel to sites, hauling yards and regional offices to understand local operations, role requirements and stakeholder needs, gradually shifting more interaction to effective virtual engagement
  • Work with a central TA Operations function that owns agency relationships; identify and recommend agencies when needed for specific locations or specialty roles

The organization grows primarily through acquisitions of regional waste haulers and environmental service providers. Many sites retain legacy ways of working, so there is no single, standard model; you will balance consistent TA standards and metrics with pragmatic local adaptation.

About You
  • Significant recruitment leadership experience in a large, complex, multi‑site environment
  • Proven track record in high‑volume field/operational hiring (ideally blue‑collar workforces)
  • Experience leading TA teams and/or people leaders, not just operating as an individual contributor
  • Comfortable managing and influencing a broad range of senior stakeholders across geographies
Industry & Domain Fit
  • Direct experience in waste management, environmental services, recycling, industrial services or related heavy field operations is highly attractive
  • Logistics / transportation
  • Manufacturing
Strongly Preferred Background
  • Previous staffing agency experience with a focus on business development / client management (not only candidate delivery)
  • Subsequent in‑house TA leadership in a sizeable organization
Skills & Attributes
  • Strong people leader: clear on expectations, coaching, feedback and performance management
  • Excellent stakeholder management with senior Operations and HR in a tough, 24/7 operational environment
  • High data literacy; comfortable using metrics to drive decisions and demonstrate impact
  • Strategic and proactive; anticipates and solves problems ahead of time rather than reacting late
  • Comfortable operating in a non‑standardized, post‑acquisition environment where each site can be different
