Job summary

Granite Construction in Sacramento is seeking a detail-oriented team member to provide quantity take-offs and ongoing technical support to the estimating staff. You will review plans, develop cost data, and help ensure accurate, timely estimates and bids.

Ideal candidates will have a civil/ construction background and be proficient in MS Office, with the ability to learn CAD and modeling software such as Microstation, Geopack, Inroads, and HEC RAS. 0-2 years experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in civil or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to calculate quantities accurately and quickly.
  • Proficiency with MS Office; CAD and modeling tools familiarity beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Review plans and specifications with estimators to determine take-off needs.
  • Develop data including take-offs, material prices, labor costs and equipment.
  • Research historical data to support future estimates and guidelines.
  • Review take-off data with estimators and assist Bid Closing for accuracy.
  • Maintain working documents to back up bid submissions.

General Summary

This position is responsible for providing quantity take-offs and ongoing technical support to the estimating staff to ensure accurate and timely estimates.

Essential Job Accountabilities
  • Review plans and specifications with the estimating team to determine specific take-off needs to ensure requirements are met.
  • Develop job essential data including quantity take-offs, material price lists, labor costs per man hour, and equipment to ensure accurate estimates and bids.
  • Research historical data and productivity analysis reports in order to compile summary reports to develop guidelines and precedence for future estimates.
  • Review take-off data/summaries with estimating team and assist in Bid Closing to ensure quantities accurately reflect project requirements.
  • Maintain files of working documents for back-up to estimating figures to support accuracy of bid submission.
Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred, or equivalent combinations of technical training and related experience.

Work Experience

0 - 2 years construction estimating support or similar experience.

Construction experience preferred.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Proficient in all MS Office products (Excel, Access, etc)
  • Ability to learn CAD and Modeling Software (such as Microstation, Geopack, Inroads, HEC RAS, etc)
  • Ability to calculate quantities accurately and in a timely manner
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
  • Ability to understand, analyze and summarize supplier and subcontract quotations.
  • Ability to work accurately while under time pressure
Physical Demands

Base Salary Range

$60,458.00 - $95,221.00 Pay may vary based upon relevant experience, skills, location, and education among other factors.
