Job summary

Hughes Brothers Construction, Inc. in Central Florida is hiring a Tailman to support the pipe crew on heavy civil projects. The role involves assisting with installation of storm, sewer, and water systems and coordinating with operators to maintain accuracy and safety on job sites.

You will help with site preparation, grading checks, and material handling while adhering to OSHA policies. The position emphasizes teamwork, reliability, and adherence to project timelines in a dynamic construction

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Ability to use hand tools and small equipment.
• Physically able to stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 40 pounds.
• Basic understanding of construction principles.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist with installation of storm drain, sanitary sewer, and water main systems.
• Set and secure pipe to line and grade under direction of Pipe Layer and Foreman.
• Guide heavy equipment operators using hand signals and radio communication.
• Install gaskets, couplings, and fittings.
• Check grade using laser levels and grade rods.
• Backfill and compact around installed pipe.
• Ensure proper bedding and compaction of trench materials.
• Maintain a safe and clean work area.
• Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
• Assist with loading/unloading materials and tools.
• Perform general labor duties as assigned

Hughes Brothers Construction is now hiring! We are a heavy civil contractor specializing in large site infrastructure, underground utilities and roadway construction throughout Central Florida. The Tailman supports the pipe crew in the installation of underground utilities and infrastructure projects. This position works closely with the Operator and Pipe Layer to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient installation of storm, sewer, and water systems on heavy civil construction job sites.
