Job summary

The UC Martial Arts Program at the University of California, Berkeley is looking for an Assistant Coach/Coordinating Instructor for the Taekwondo club. The role involves leading and coaching a large student-athlete group across practices and competitions, while driving recruitment and performance goals.

You will collaborate with trainers and coaches to design conditioning plans and manage program budgets, with duties expanding to donor relations and stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

• Must have a college degree (Preferred).
• Must be recognized expert in teaching and coaching and has a minimum of 10 years of teaching or coaching experience.
• Must have supervisory and leadership skills to mentor and develop assistant coaching or program instructional staff.
• Must have highly advanced and effective inter-personal, motivational, and team leadership skills.
• Must maintain current rules and regulations of martial arts competition by the NGB or ISF.
• Martial arts rank certification of minimum of 4th Dan or equivalent experience. (Required)
• Certification to instruct in the applicable martial arts rank certification. (Required)
• Teaching or coaching Certification preferred by NGB or ISF. (Preferred)
• Standard First Aid Training Certification. (Preferred)

Responsibilities

• Teaches martial arts trainings at practices and competitive events.
• Assumes responsibility for building a nationally competitive martial arts team through successful recruiting and retention of high-level student-athletes.
• Collaborates with Athletic Trainers, Assistant Coaches, and Strength and Conditioning Coaches to design both academic year and summer conditioning programs.
• Proposes budgets, reconciles expenses, and proposes purchases for the sports program. Operates within the approved budget guidelines.
• In conjunction with various units within the athletic department, participates in donor meetings and events, participates in public relations activities, and monitors academic performance to ensure requirements are met.
• Serve as key liaison to the UC Martial Arts Program community, engaging in alumni, fund raising and other key stakeholder activities.
• May work in youth camps, fitness, and outdoor programs.
