Description

The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department provides direct and indirect patient care. He/She applies the nursing process to plan and implement patient care, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. The RN must possess good communication skills to effectively communicate with physicians, peers, patients, and families. They work collaboratively with all healthcare team members to ensure quality care is delivered.

Essential Functions

• Providing nursing care appropriate to patient conditions and needs.
• Collaborating with physicians and healthcare professionals to provide patient care.
• Establishing, reviewing, revising, and following the patient care plan.
• Administering medications and treatments within the scope of practice.
• Documenting patient care activities, assessments, and treatments accurately.
• Using computer systems and operating medical equipment.
• Providing education to patients and families regarding treatment, diagnosis, medications, discharge, and self-care.
• Following nursing standards to promote excellent outcomes and patient safety.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: Must possess an active TN RN license or a compact license with the intent to obtain a TN RN license within 30 days.

Required Skills: Current BLS/CPR certification within 12 months of hire; ACLS, PALS, and HWC certifications within 12 months of hire.

Additional Requirements

Must be able to read and communicate effectively in English, work under pressure, adapt quickly, and function both dependently and independently.
