Job description

Description: The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department provides direct and indirect patient care. He/She applies the nursing process to plan and implement patient care, including patient and family education and care planning. The RN must possess good communication skills to effectively communicate with physicians, peers, patients, and families. They work collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure quality care.

Essential Functions
  • Providing nursing care appropriate to the patient's condition and needs.
  • Consulting and collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
  • Establishing, reviewing, revising, and following the patient plan of care.
  • Administering medications and treatments within the scope of practice.
  • Recording patient care activities in the medical record.
  • Using computer systems and operating medical equipment.
  • Providing education related to treatment, diagnosis, medications, discharge, and self-care.
  • Following nursing standards to promote outcomes, safety, and health.

Qualifications include an active TN RN license or a compact state license with the intent to obtain a TN RN license within 30 days, current BLS/CPR certification, and within 12 months, obtaining ACLS, PALS, and HWC certifications. Must be able to read and communicate effectively in English, work under pressure, adapt quickly, and function both dependently and independently.
