Job summary

Orbifold AI is seeking a PhD-level researcher to advance tactile sensing and soft robotics. You will design, fabricate, and validate sensor hardware, build end-to-end test rigs, and push cross-sensor benchmarks and datasets.

The role centers on producing rigorous, publishable results that define the field's standards. You will own the instrumentation, calibrations, and data pipelines needed to compare resistive, capacitive, piezoresistive, magnetic and vision-based sensing across manipulation

Qualifications

PhD or equivalent research experience in tactile sensing, soft robotics, haptics, mechatronics or closely related field.
First-author publications in venues such as ICRA, IROS, RSS, CoRL, RoboSoft or IEEE Transactions on Haptics.
Hands-on hardware record: designed, fabricated and validated sensing/actuation systems.

Responsibilities

Run the research agenda above as real experiments: hypothesis, instrumentation, controls, and a defendable result.
Design and fabricate the instrumentation your experiments need.
Characterize rigorously: build test benches, measure hysteresis, creep, drift, temperature sensitivity and cross-talk.
Publish results internally and contribute to benchmarks, datasets, and methods.
