Turner Industries is looking for a Tack Welder to join our team at our Fabrication Shop in Paris, TX.

Overtime may be required for this job. Work hours can vary from 40 - 84 hours per week based on production deadlines.

Job does not pay per diem.

General Description

Places tack welds in pipe spools to hold together prior to welding

Functional Requirements

  • Works under the direction of a Foreman, receives instructions from a Fabricator, places tack welds in pipe spools to hold together prior to welding. Assists Fabricator in production of pipe spools.
  • Functional Requirements:
  • Read and sign off on JSA prior to starting shift.
  • Pass required tackers test (GTAW)
  • Knowledge of welding machine
  • Gather material listed on sketch; prep pipe and fittings with pneumatic grinders for fit up.
  • Clean out inside diameter of pipe and fittings with compressed air after fit up.
  • Follow instructions given by fabricator.
  • Always maintains a clean and safe work environment.

Qualification Standards

  • Preferably one (1) year of experience in specified skill.
  • Pre-employment/Post-employment weld qualification tests.
  • Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation.
  • Turner Industries Group/Job site orientation/Hazard Communication and required tests.

  • Job site "Personal Protective Equipment" requirements (hearing protection, safety glasses - OSHA approved Z87 if applicable, long sleeve shirt, gloves, steel toe boots, etc.).

Physical Involvement

Employee may be required to do the following: climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level; maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc.; reaching in all directions, handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; carrying objects, tools equipment, etc.; standing; sitting; walking; pushing; pulling; bending; kneeling; crouching/squatting; crawling; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction.

Mental Involvement

Employee may be required to do the following: following set procedures and standards; applying basic mathematical skills; planning work and selecting proper tools; comparing and understanding differences in the size, shape and form of pipe spools, figures, and objects; following oral and/or written directions; reading and writing; ability to recognize and report safety hazards.

Work Environment Factors

Location: industrial construction sites and/or fabrication shop

Mobility Barriers to Access Job Site: uneven ground levels; obstructed pathways; work performed at low and/or high elevations; work performed in confined areas.

Climatic/Environmental Conditions at Job Site: predominately outdoor climate; may be exposed to extreme hot or cold weather, excessive humidity, rain, etc.; various noise levels caused by tools, machinery, equipment, etc.; potential exposure to chemical substances.
