About Fedsprout

Fedsprout is a mission-driven consulting firm that helps small businesses succeed in the SBIR/STTR ecosystem and beyond. We work with startups, universities, and innovators across science and engineering disciplines to unlock federal funding, accelerate commercialization, and build capacity for long-term impact.

As a TABA provider, we support clients funded by agencies like the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, and National Science Foundation—offering services that include market analysis, technology maturation planning, and strategic transition support. Our work sits at the intersection of innovation, national competitiveness, and public purpose.

About the Role

We are seeking a Technical and Business Assistance (TABA) Consultant to support SBIR awards funded by the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). The projects involve developing a TABA report focused on a defense technology aligned with MDA mission areas. The initial scope of work will be limited, and we are actively building our bench of experts for future projects across the MDA portfolio.

This role is ideal for someone who understands the challenges of transitioning emerging technologies into operational defense environments and who can help articulate commercialization pathways in a structured, technically grounded format.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Review technical documentation (e.g., IRAD results, feasibility reports, prototype data)
  2. Produce a TABA report that addresses:
  • Technology readiness and potential for transition
  • Integration opportunities with existing or emerging DoD/MDA systems
  • Commercial and dual-use applications
  • Recommended next steps for validation, piloting, or market entry

Collaborate with technical team members to clarify milestones and project goals. Deliver a high-quality report in alignment with SBIR TABA requirements.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience preparing SBIR/STTR Phase II TABA reports or commercialization strategies
  • Familiarity with DoD acquisition, transition frameworks, or defense tech ecosystems
  • Strong technical literacy in areas relevant to MDA:
  • Command and control systems
  • Sensor fusion and integrated sensing
  • AI/ML-enabled autonomy
  • Directed energy or ISR
  • Excellent communication skills and structured writing style
  • U.S. citizenship due to export-controlled project scope
  • Preferred:

    • Prior work with MDA-funded SBIR/STTR projects
    • Experience supporting clients through Phase III or dual-use transitions
    • Understanding of export control compliance and defense innovation strategy
    • Interest in future project-based work with Fedsprout and its clients
    What This Role Offers
    • A flexible, remote consulting contract
    • The opportunity to contribute to mission-critical defense technologies
    • A collaborative relationship with Fedsprout’s team of SBIR/STTR experts
    • Potential for future work on SBIR TABA reports, transition plans, and proposal support across agencies
    Additional Details
    • Seniority level: Mid-Senior level
    • Employment type: Contract
    • Industries: Business Consulting and Services
