Job summary

A nonprofit organization in New York is seeking an assistant to support instructional activities for students with disabilities. Essential Duties
  • Assists in instructional activities as directed by the teacher- including direct instruction of students
  • May assume responsibility for class when teacher is absent/unavailable
  • Follows mobility, dining and direct care protocols as directed by the teacher or therapist and as noted on individual fact sheets
  • Assists with management needs of students, including performing duties related to activities of daily living, (toileting, diapering, washing, tooth brushing), dress/undress, put on/remove adaptive equipment, set up students’ learning environment
  • Carries out therapeutic goals within classroom activities as directed by and in conjunction with the therapist, includes systematic lifting and positioning of students and application and removal of equipment
  • Records data, monitors student responses as directed by teacher or other team professionals
  • Follows behavioral plans/intervention techniques for assigned students, as directed by teacher/school psychologist
  • Communicates student information accurately and in a timely fashion to supervisor and/or appropriate team members. May be directed to communicate with parents verbally or in writing
  • Participates in classroom dining program
  • To remain alert and engaged for the entire shift in order to ensure proper supervision of students is maintained

Compensation Range: $18.28 - $22.16
