Job summary

Viasat is seeking a System Test Engineer, Early Career, to join our growing team in a site-based role in the United States. You will work with systems engineering, RF, software, and mechanical teams across the full development lifecycle, from requirements evaluation to test maintenance.

You will develop test plans and software, integrate and test Viasat networks, troubleshoot hardware issues, and analyze results with cross-functional colleagues.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, communications networks or related field.
• 0–3 years of full-time, relevant industry experience.
• Must have valid work permit or visa for the country of work.
• Basic Linux command line experience; Python coding interest; knowledge of Git, Jenkins, AWS; TCP/IP fundamentals.

Responsibilities

What you'll do

Viasat is looking for a System Test Engineer, Early Career to join our growing team. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including systems engineering, RF, digital/PL, mechanical, and test just to name a few. You will be involved in all phases of the development lifecycle: evaluation of requirements, trade studies, design, coding, unit test, integration, and maintenance. You will have the autonomy to complete your tasks but also have access to hard working engineers and domain experts to help you succeed

The day-to-day

• Integration and Test of the Viasat networks
• Work with designers and system engineers to gather Test requirements
• Develop test plans
• Develop test software
• Troubleshoot and problem solving on Viasat hardware
• Data analysis of test results

Additional Details

• This position is site-based.Site-basedemployees work 3+ days (60%+) per week from a Viasat office or work location within a standardfive-daywork week. Viasat embraces a flexible workenvironmentand onsite/hybrid work isdeterminedby individual roles and teams. Relocationassistancemay beavailablepending eligibility.

What you'll need

• Education: Completion of Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, electrical engineering, communication networks or a related field
• Experience: This role is intended for someone with 0-3 years of full-time, relevant industry experience
• Citizenship: This position requires a valid Work Permit or Visa for the country you would be located and working from
• Additional:
  • Basic experience with navigating and working with Linux command line
  • Previous coding experience with and desire to learn Python
  • Knowledge or experience with development tools such as Git, Jenkins, and Amazon Web Services
  • Knowledge of wired and wireless communication networks
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP network fundamentals
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work both autonomously and with a team
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills
  • Up to 10% travel per year

What will help you on the job

• Demonstrated interest in generative AI and AI-assisted software development through coursework, projects, or research. Experience using Claude or similar AI development tools is a plus

Salary range

$77,000.00 - $122,000.00 / annually.For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $96,000.00- $144,000.00/ annually
