Job summary

UMass Amherst is seeking an Electrician I (Systems Technician) to install and maintain various building systems, including security and card access systems. This position requires a valid Massachusetts electrical license and at least two years of relevant experience in the trade.

The technician will work on-site, providing essential maintenance services and troubleshooting issues as they arise. Strong knowledge of electrical principles and safety codes is required, along with the ability to work in physically demanding environments.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years of relevant work experience in the security systems trade.
• Ability to stand and work for long periods of time.
• Experience with various hand and power tools.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, operate, and repair building systems including card access and security systems.
• Provide preventive maintenance services for electrical systems.
• Assist engineering staff in drawing reviews and troubleshooting.

Skills

Knowledge of fundamental principles of electricity and electronics

Knowledge of Massachusetts Electrical and NFPA Codes

Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50-75 lbs

Experience with computer programs

Skills to interpret blueprints and schematics

Education

Current valid Massachusetts Systems Contractor, Systems Technician, Master, or Journeyman Electrical License

Must have a valid Class D Driver's License

Asbestos Abatement Worker Certification within six months
