Toomey Technologies in Northern Virginia is seeking a System Support Specialist to install, troubleshoot, and maintain Windows workstations and servers, and to support 911 workstations, servers, applications, networks, and communications equipment at customer sites.

The ideal candidate should have a strong IT foundation, proven troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently at customer sites.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Windows operating systems and common IT applications.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and IP addressing.
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, network, and connectivity problems.
  • Basic understanding of Ethernet, switches, and network connectivity.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other standard Microsoft applications.

Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite technical support for systems and related IT infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues involving workstations, servers, applications, network connectivity, and communications equipment.
  • Install, configure, update, and maintain Windows workstations and servers.
  • Perform routine system maintenance, software updates, and configuration changes.
  • Assist with troubleshooting basic network and VoIP connectivity issues.
  • Monitor system performance and identify potential issues before they impact operations.
  • Work with remote engineering and support teams to resolve more complex problems.
  • Perform onsite troubleshooting and collect system logs and technical information when escalation is required.
  • Maintain accurate records of system changes, troubleshooting activities, and repairs.
  • Document technical procedures and solutions.
  • Provide professional and timely communication with customers and internal support teams.
  • Assist with system testing, upgrades, and new equipment installations.
  • Follow established cybersecurity, system security, and configuration management procedures.
  • Assist with security requirements, including STIGs, security scans, and required remediation.
  • Maintain a professional working relationship with customers, vendors, and internal teams.
  • Participate in scheduled after-hours or on-call support as required.

Job Description

Immediate opening for a System Support Specialist in Northern Virginia. This role partners directly with customers to maintain, troubleshoot, and support 911 workstations, servers, applications, networks, and communications equipment.

The ideal candidate should have a strong foundation in information technology, proven troubleshooting capabilities, and the ability to work independently at customer site. This position requires sound judgment in diagnosing and resolving routine technical issues, as well as timely escalation of complex matters to senior engineering and support personnel.

Responsibilities

Qualifications
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Working knowledge of Windows operating systems and common IT applications.
  • Understanding of basic networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and IP addressing.
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, network, and connectivity problems.
  • Basic understanding of Ethernet, switches, and network connectivity.
  • Basic understanding of VoIP and SIP communications.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage onsite support responsibilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to clearly document technical issues and corrective actions.
  • Ability to work professionally with customers, vendors, and technical teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other standard Microsoft applications.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
  • Experience supporting 911, PSAP, public safety, or other mission-critical systems.
  • Experience with virtual machines and virtualized environments.
  • Familiarity with Cisco networking equipment.
  • Familiarity with VLANs and basic network troubleshooting.
  • Basic knowledge of VoIP, SIP, and RTP.
  • Experience using Wireshark or similar network troubleshooting tools.Familiarity with DoD STIGs, vulnerability scanning, RMF, or other cybersecurity requirements.
  • Experience working in federalenvironment.
Security Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship is required to support this customer.
  • CompTIA Security+ CE certification
