Job description

This position is responsible for assisting in the operation of the department. An individual in this position will be expected to perform additional job-related responsibilities and duties throughout the facility as assigned and/or as necessary. In addition to the responsibilities below, the BAS Specialist III performs routine and complex technical duties in troubleshooting and repairing components within building automation field cabinets, sensors, and related controls. They may work under the supervision of a higher-level building automation technician and are expected to maintain all responsibilities and attributes of lower-level technicians. This position supports Northern VA.

Essential Functions

An individual must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.

  1. Troubleshoot and repair building-automation-system field cabinets, including communication devices, printed circuit boards, power supplies, electrical/electronic controls, sensors, and transducers.
  2. Perform point-to-point checkout safely, using tools like multimeters to verify sensors, IO channels, valve positions, etc., according to department standards.
  3. Mentor lower-level technicians to maintain standards.
  4. Take initiative in checkout of end devices, module configuration, and troubleshooting network issues.
  5. Responsible for startup of automation systems and mechanical equipment.
  6. Understand various protocols integrated into building automation systems.
  7. Make complex programming and graphic changes to meet specifications and sequences.
  8. Communicate technical issues to management, project managers, and senior technicians.
  9. Maintain field markups and coordinate with lower-level technicians.
  10. Report to work on time and perform assigned tasks.
  11. Perform database tasks such as backups, troubleshooting, and exporting files.
  12. Maintain tools, test equipment, and materials.
  13. Create thorough daily reports for the EMS project team and supervisor.
  14. Mentor and set a good example for lower-level technicians.
  15. Identify opportunities to advance project progress.
  16. Coordinate with jobsite personnel from other trades.
  17. Work with commissioning agents to demonstrate system functionality.
  18. Participate in solutions-based discussions with owners and stakeholders.
  19. Drive employee engagement, safety, quality, and productivity training and development.
  20. Ensure standards, policies, and safety are met, and collaborate on continuous improvement.
  21. Support a culture of open dialogue, high performance, and accountability.
  22. Complete weekly timecards accurately and on time.
  23. Possess equivalent experience, vocational training, or an Associate degree in relevant fields.
  24. Experience in high-availability environments preferred.
  25. Familiarity with Automated Logic and other building automation software preferred.
  26. Experience with BAS programming and graphics, e.g., Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, Schneider.
  27. Self-starter with a willingness to learn and grow.
  28. Ability to document tasks, plan, and prepare effectively.
  29. Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and self-initiative skills.
  30. Excellent communication and report-writing skills.

Pay Rate: $34-$40/hr.
