Job summary

Jobtailor in Wayne, PA is seeking a design-focused engineer to design and document telecommunications systems, including structured cabling, equipment rooms, MDF/IDF layouts, and coordination with client IT and security standards.

You will interface with clients, attend project meetings, develop scope documents, provide QA/QC on technology projects, and support project managers across Bala’s vertical markets. A strong engineering background and collaboration skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or associate degree in engineering, design, or management related to built environments.
• Including continuing education and certification on technology design is valued.
• Industry certifications like BICSI RCDD are preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Design and document telecommunications systems, including structured cabling (copper and fiber), equipment rooms, MDF/IDF layouts and pathways, backbone and horizontal distribution, and carrier demarcation and service provider coordination.
• Coordinate with Bala’s Audiovisual & Security teams.
• Develop system concepts, basis‑of‑design narratives, and performance criteria aligned with client IT and security standards.
• Interface with clients, attend project meetings and site visits.
• Develop scope of responsibility documents and other coordination materials.
• Provide value across the Bala offices as a technical resource.
• Interact with other practice groups on vertical market strategic issues.
• Provide QA/QC on technology‑related projects.
• Assist project managers on design and documentation across all of Bala’s vertical markets (education, hospitality, corporate, etc.) when workload allows.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in a relevant engineering, design or management discipline or history of continuing education and certification on technology design for the built environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Prior experience in the data center market preferred but not required.
