Job summary

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Systems Requirements & Development Engineer Level 3/4 for the SiAW missile program in Northridge, CA. This on-site role requires a DoD Secret clearance and focuses on translating requirements into verifiable system specifications, performing trades, and supporting architecture and verification activities.

The candidate will generate documents, support cost and schedule objectives, and interface with internal teams and external customers.

Qualifications

  • BS in an engineering discipline with 5+ years in systems engineering (MS with 3+ years acceptable)
  • Experience in requirements development and verification activities
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance required

Responsibilities

  • Translate customer requirements and CONOPS into system requirements and allocate to lower levels
  • Perform functional analysis and system trade studies for design, fabrication, test, installation, operation
  • Generate system and subsystem requirements documents, interface documents, and test/verification docs
  • Support system architecture/design and test architecture on complex weapon systems to mature technologies

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is currently seeking a Systems Requirements & Development Engineer Level 3/4 to support our SiAW missile program with our talented Advanced Weapons team. This position is required to be full-time, on-site in the Northridge, CA location. No remote/telework arrangement is available for this position. Applicants must have an active US Government DoD Secret security clearance.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support system requirements development, management, analysis, and traceability, to translate customer requirements and CONOPS into systems requirements, and further allocate to lower-level requirements.
  • Perform functional analysis and systems trade studies for technical solutions with respect to concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, and maintenance.
  • Generate well-defined and executable system and subsystem requirements documents, interface documents, and test and verification documents.
  • Support the development of system architecture & design, and test architecture on complex weapon systems in digital environment to mature the technologies of the systems.
  • Support development of technical volume and cost volume for proposal; use historical actuals to develop Basis of Estimates (BOEs).
  • Support system/subsystems integration, test, and requirements verification activities with other functions such as software and hardware.
  • Support systems engineering metrics and technical performance measurement tracking.
  • Support the preparation of system engineering materials during System Requirements Review, System Functional Review, Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, System Verification Review, Test Readiness Review, and other program reviews as needed.
  • Interface with inter-organizational management and external Customer to communicate technical briefing and program status.
  • Support Program Management activities to ensure cost and schedule objectives are met; support program status efforts including Earned Value Management System (EVMS) tracking and Control Account Management (CAM) activities.
  • Support the management of critical subcontractors developing and testing tactical missile technologies and delivery of quality products.
Basic qualifications for a Principal Systems Engineer level (T03) are:
  • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline and a minimum of five (5) years of systems engineering experience with any exposure to requirements development and verification activities; will consider Master of Science in an Engineering discipline and a minimum of three (3) years of systems engineering experience with any exposure to requirements development and verification activities.
  • Experience in hardware engineering, software engineering, and/or test engineering.
  • Experience in systems engineering tools, such as DOORS, CAMEO.
  • Experience in technical writing, such as planning document, test procedure, test/analysis report.
  • Experience in configuration management and product lifecycle management tool(s).
  • Must have proven experience in communicating with peers in a methodical, detailed and process-oriented fashion.
  • Must have demonstrated experience in providing solutions to a variety of technical problems under general supervision.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance.
Basic qualifications for a Sr Principal Systems Engineer level (T04) are:
  • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline and a minimum of eight (8) years of systems engineering experience with any exposure to requirements development and verification activities; will consider Master of Science in an Engineering discipline and a minimum of six (6) years of systems engineering experience with any exposure to requirements development and verification activities.
  • Experience in hardware engineering, software engineering, and/or test engineering.
  • Experience in systems engineering tools, such as DOORS, CAMEO.
  • Experience in technical writing, such as planning document, test procedure, test/analysis report.
  • Experience in configuration management and product lifecycle management tool(s).
  • Must have proven experience in communicating with peers in a methodical, detailed and process-oriented fashion.
  • Must have demonstrated experience in providing solutions to a variety of technical problems under general supervision.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in multiple missile technologies (e.g., sensors, navigation aids, guidance electronics, controls, propulsion, structures, platforms).
  • Have technical knowledge in one or more military mission areas (e.g., Air, Land, Sea, Space, Cyber).
  • Experience in assessing legacy system architecture and innovating for future potential technology development.
Salary

Primary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
