We are seeking a highly motivated Systems Engineer to join Sonatech LLC in Santa Barbara, California. This position is a project technical lead that oversees all design activity on a given product design. Sonatech LLC is a premier undersea acoustics engineering and manufacturing company. Job Description

This position is an opportunity to shape new products from scratch and improve existing ones. The candidate will work closely with customers to develop system concepts, technical requirements, and product specifications, and thereafter oversee systems design throughout the development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Architecture development, interface definition, system modelling, algorithm development, data analysis, and trade studies.
• Provide technical leadership throughout product development lifecycle.
• Progress reporting to management and customer representatives.
• Oversee systems integration and customer trial activities.
• Generation of technical requirements and specifications, requirement management, compliance traceability, and verification.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
• Minimum 5 years in active electrical engineer design.
• Minimum 5 years working as a system engineer with direct product design and architecture experience.
• Experience guiding products through the full development lifecycle and field trials.
• Excellent cross‑functional troubleshooting skills.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including presenting to customers and senior leadership.
• U.S. citizenship required and ability to obtain a DoD secret security clearance.

Preferred Skills

• Master’s degree in electrical engineering.
• Experience with underwater acoustic positioning systems for tracking and navigation.
• Understanding of underwater acoustic principles.
• Understanding of electronic systems with embedded software applications.
• Experience in developing computer‑based performance models in MATLAB to support system concept and design definition.
