Job summary

Golden Valley Electric Association (GVEA) in Fairbanks, AK, is seeking a Home Systems & Network Engineer I–III to design, implement, secure, and maintain the technology infrastructure powering Interior Alaska. You’ll support enterprise and industrial networks, servers, virtualization, and cybersecurity while advancing through engineering levels.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or an related field (or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience).
  • Progressive experience in systems administration, network engineering, or related IT infrastructure roles.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise networking concepts, including LAN/WAN, routing, switching, DNS, firewalls, VPNs, and network security.
  • Experience administering Windows and Linux server environments.
  • Familiarity with virtualization platforms, storage systems, cloud technologies, and disaster recovery practices.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, intrusion detection, vulnerability management, and industry best practices.
  • Experience with industrial control systems, SCADA, AMI, or utility operational technology is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, project management, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with employees, contractors, vendors, and external partners.
  • Relevant technical certifications (Cisco, Microsoft, Red Hat, Oracle, or similar) are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, secure, and maintain the technology infrastructure that supports GVEA's electric utility operations.
  • Support enterprise and industrial networks, server environments, cloud technologies, and cybersecurity systems.
  • Contribute to projects involving network and server administration, communications infrastructure, virtualization, cloud services, and cybersecurity.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues, monitor system performance, support disaster recovery, and implement new technologies.
  • Progress through Engineer I, II, and III levels with increasing responsibility for infrastructure design, technical leadership, and strategic technology planning.
