Job summary

Golden Valley Electric Association in Fairbanks is seeking an Engineer to design, plan, and maintain the electrical infrastructure that powers Interior Alaska. You will contribute to transmission, distribution, and generation projects, supporting reliability and future expansion of our electric system.

The role blends office and field work, requires a BSEE with power emphasis and the Alaska FE Exam or plan to obtain within two years.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with emphasis in Power Engineering.
  • FE Exam completed or ability to obtain within two years of hire.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles, mathematics, physics, and electrical system design.

Responsibilities

  • Support planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of GVEA's electrical system.
  • Collaborate with contractors and internal teams to develop practical solutions and ensure reliability.

With a competitive starting annual salary of $78,705 - $126,585 (annually) Grade 10-14. A LITTLE ABOUT US

GVEA is an electric cooperative that owns and maintains 3,491 miles of transmission and distribution lines, 35 substations, and 9 generating facilities. Our system is interconnected with Fort Wainwright, Eielson AFB, Fort Greely, Clear Space Force Station, the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and all electric utilities throughout the Alaska Railbelt, extending from Homer to Fairbanks. Powering the Interior of Alaska, GVEA contributes to the economic, environmental, and social vitality of the communities we serve.

YOUR ROLE AS AN ENGINEER

As an Engineer, you'll support the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of GVEA's electrical system while working alongside experienced engineers and field crews. You'll contribute to a variety of transmission, distribution, and generation projects, helping ensure our system remains safe, reliable, and efficient.

In this role, you'll assist with project planning and design, engineering studies, system analysis, construction support, and technical problem-solving. You'll also work with contractors, internal departments, and GVEA members to develop practical solutions that support our communities and the cooperative's long-term success.

Job Related Qualifications

To succeed as an Engineer, you'll have a strong technical foundation in electrical engineering along with a desire to learn, collaborate, and solve complex problems. You'll be comfortable balancing office and field work while managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong analytical abilities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with employees, contractors, vendors, and members. Experience using engineering software, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office applications is highly desirable.

Knowledge and skills required for the position include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with an emphasis in Power Engineering.
  • Successful completion of the Alaska Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam or the ability to obtain it within two years of hire.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles, mathematics, physics, and electrical system design.
  • Familiarity with engineering analysis software, AutoCAD, and Autodesk products.
  • Ability to prepare designs, estimates, budgets, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Strong organizational, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
