GVEA is an electric cooperative that owns and maintains 3,491 miles of transmission and distribution lines, 35 substations, and 9 generating facilities. Our system is interconnected with Fort Wainwright, Eielson AFB, Fort Greely, Clear Space Force Station, the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and all electric utilities throughout the Alaska Railbelt, extending from Homer to Fairbanks. As an Engineer, you'll support the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of GVEA's electrical system while working alongside experienced engineers and field crews. You'll contribute to a variety of transmission, distribution, and generation projects, helping ensure our system remains safe, reliable, and efficient.
In this role, you'll assist with project planning and design, engineering studies, system analysis, construction support, and technical problem-solving. You'll also work with contractors, internal departments, and GVEA members to develop practical solutions that support our communities and the cooperative's long-term success.
To succeed as an Engineer, you'll have a strong technical foundation in electrical engineering along with a desire to learn, collaborate, and solve complex problems. You'll be comfortable balancing office and field work while managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong analytical abilities, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with employees, contractors, vendors, and members. Experience using engineering software, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office applications is highly desirable.
