Description

At Northrop Grumman, our employees have incredible opportunities to work on revolutionary systems that impact people's lives around the world today, and for generations to come. Our pioneering and inventive spirit has enabled us to be at the forefront of many technological advancements in our nation's history - from the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean, to stealth bombers, to landing on the moon. We look for people who have bold new ideas, courage and a pioneering spirit to join forces to invent the future, and have fun along the way. Our culture thrives on intellectual curiosity, cognitive diversity and bringing your whole self to work — and we have an insatiable drive to do what others think is impossible. Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.

What does the role look like?

The selected M&S engineers would be responsible for developing, maturing, and debugging the highest fidelity model of the GWS Fire Control tactical software.

A volume of this work can look like code translation (not direct code translation because of differences between languages), team members will need to be comfortable / familiar with software design / data structures.

Challenging Parts Of This Role Are Focused On
  • The ability to debug and “tune” the model to represent tactical behavior (it’s good to have at least awareness of concurrency or multithreaded systems. The model we develop is sequential, but it’s common for us to have to implement workarounds to represent concurrent systems.).
  • Data analytics and root cause analysis

It’s a big bonus if a candidate has Cython experience (Cython is just a Python library that allows us to generate C/C++ code from Python)

Position Overview

The selected Modeling and Simulation Engineer Level 2 or 3 will support the Ground Weapons System (GWS) program as an individual contributor on the System Performance and Analysis - SPIDER team. This role is responsible for providing technical contributions and guidance to modeling and simulation products that directly support the design and development of the GWS capability on behalf of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA).

The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/teams comprised of all experience levels.

Basic Qualifications
  • (Level 2) Bachelors degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 2 years of relevant professional experience or a Masters degree in a STEM discipline with 1 years of experience
  • (Level 3) Bachelors degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of relevant professional experience or a Masters degree in a STEM discipline with 3 years of experience
  • Demonstrated software development experience in languages or tools such as C, C++, MATLAB, JAVA, ADA, Python, or GIT
  • Experience or a strong comprehension of Object Oriented Programming and design (such as SOLID design principles)
  • Experience or a strong comprehension of modeling and simulation concepts, including validating, verifying, and benchmarking models against tactical systems
  • Exceptional attention to detail and communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate within/across teams
  • Ability to work effectively using team processes, workflows, and coding standards.
  • Current, active, in-scope U.S. Department of Defense Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% of the time in support of program or customer needs
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Cython and/or developing C++ code to mature models and simulations
  • Experience using MATLAB and Python for modeling and simulation applications
  • Experience assessing and optimizing runtime performance of algorithms, models, or simulations
  • Experience with ADA
