Job summary

Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a Mechanical Test Engineer for the Orion program. You will plan, prepare, and execute mechanical integration tests for Artemis III/IV and future missions, coordinating across engineering, labs, and NASA to ensure readiness of flight articles.

The role requires interpreting drawings, writing test plans, and supporting test activities across shifts; travel to LM Space campuses may be necessary and US citizenship is required.

Qualifications

As an ATLO (Assembly, Test, and Launch Operations) Mechanical Test Engineer on the Orion program, you will be responsible for the planning, preparation, and execution of mechanical integration activities for the Orion spacecraft for Artemis III, Artemis IV, and future missions.

We are seeking a Mechanical Systems Test Engineer on the Orion Program responsible for the coordination of all aspects of test preparation and execution.

Summary Of Key Duties For This Position

• Develop test plans, test procedures, and schematics for system and subsystem-level mechanical tests on the Orion spacecraft and test articles.
• Understanding the Orion spacecraft assembly, integration and test flow and the associated processes including test execution, anomaly resolution, and paper closure.
• Collaborate with team members across the program including systems engineering, CPEs/RSEs, software, test labs, manufacturing, quality, and NASA
• Execute test procedures on current flight articles (Artemis III and Artemis IV) and future vehicles under Orion production.
• Tests include acceptance testing, environmental testing and ground servicing of flight hardware (including fluids & pneumatic systems, mechanical structures and mechanisms) at the assembly, subsystem and spacecraft level of assembly.
• Test activities will primarily take place at Kennedy Space Center, but the position will be required to support test efforts at other locations for periods of time.
• Periodic off-shift and weekend work will be required.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or closely related field preferred) or equivalent experience/combined education
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to develop and maintain effective cross-functional relationships and an ability to work and lead in a team environment
• Experience interpreting engineering drawings, schematics and test specifications for testing of hardware
• Willing to work extended hours, including second/third shifts, holidays and weekends, in support of test activities
• This position requires special access to support the program and requires the selected candidate to be a US Citizen.

Desired Skills

• Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related discipline
• Willingness to travel to other LM Space campuses to perform Test Engineering activities
• Certified Test Conductor (CTC) training
• Experience with structural, environmental or pneumatic testing
• Familiarity using Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (pneumatic or fluids loading panels)
• Familiarity with fluid systems, such as Propulsion or Environmental Control and Life Support
• Experience writing test plans, test procedures, or technical documents
• Capable of working in a fast-paced environment with evolving requirements and dynamic schedules
• Knowledge of the Orion spacecraft or experience on a production spacecraft program
• Experience using Automation Framework tools
• Thorough understanding of LM command media for Test Engineering

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $85300.00 - $158300.00

• Annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs may be offered depending on the position. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and can vary from year to year and are tied to a range of performance metrics.
• For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
