Job summary

RTX’s Collins Aerospace division is seeking an engineering intern/co-op in Jamestown, ND to support the development and testing of cargo system hardware and software. You will work with engineers on mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electronic subsystems, helping translate customer needs into concrete hardware and software specifications.

You will gain exposure to systems engineering processes, participate in requirements decomposition, and collaborate across cross-functional teams to deliver

Qualifications

  • Must be pursuing Bachelor's or Advanced degree in Electrical, Computer, Systems, or related fields and enrolled through internship.
  • Must have at least 60 credit hours by start of internship.
  • Experience may be gained through coursework, projects, or on-the-job experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist development of aircraft mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electronic systems integration and test.
  • Contribute to requirements decomposition and traceability for cargo systems.
  • Support documentation review and testing of engineering releases.
  • Collaborate with HW/SW designers, test engineers, and production teams.
  • Provide status updates on testing progress and findings.

A co-op in this position will work closely with engineers supporting the development of aircraft mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electronic systems integration and test, communication, networking & computing or requirements decomposition and traceability for Cargo systems.

You will get to work with a variety of engineers from across the world to bring to life a cargo system.

  • Technical trade studies.
  • Requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
  • Documentation review and update.
  • Testing of recent engineering releases.
  • Analysis & documentation of problem trouble reports found during testing.
  • Providing written and verbal status of testing progress to the concurrent engineering team and providing suggestions for problem trouble report resolution.

Work cross functionally with Customer Teams, HW & SW Designers, Test Engineers & Technicians, Supply Chain, Production & Quality, Field Service Engineers, FAA and Airline Customers and OEMs.

What You Will Learn
  • Fundamentals of systems engineering for aviation programs
  • Engineering development processes
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Must be pursuing Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Electrical, Computer, Systems, computer science, industrial systems (specifically human factors), and/or Math/Physics and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
  • Must have a minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co-op session.
  • Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Prior engineering co-op or internship experience
  • Working knowledge of Systems engineering, MATLAB and Simulink or equivalent systems modeling software
  • Software programming experience
