You will drive modernization, design detailed engineering solutions, lead cloud deployments, and ensure availability, security, and performance across enterprise systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on systems engineering across network, compute, storage, operating systems, middleware, databases, platforms and applications.
• Analyze existing environments and document architectures.
• Develop detailed designs for modernization and transformation initiatives.
• Lead system and cloud implementations, migrations, upgrades and refreshes.
• Engineer solutions for availability, scalability, security, and compliance.
• Integrate infrastructure with DevOps/DevSecOps pipelines.
• Troubleshoot issues across infrastructure, platforms, databases, networks, and apps.
• Perform root-cause analysis and drive resolution.
• Collaborate across teams to resolve system-level problems.
• Develop architecture diagrams and technical documentation.
• Brief leadership on system status, risks, and decisions.

Falls Technology is looking for an experienced Systems Engineer / SME to join our team supporting a complex mission environment in Chantilly, VA.

This is a hands‑on engineering role for someone who understands the full technology stack—from networks, compute, storage, and operating systems through middleware, databases, cloud platforms, and applications. You’ll serve as a senior technical resource responsible for solving complex system problems and helping modernize and evolve mission infrastructure and platforms.

What You’ll Do

• Perform hands‑on systems engineering across network, compute, storage, operating systems, middleware, databases, platforms, and applications.
• Analyze existing environments and document current infrastructure, platform, and application architectures.
• Work with System and Cloud Architects to develop detailed engineering designs for modernization, optimization, and transformation initiatives.
• Lead and execute system and cloud implementations, migrations, upgrades, and technology refreshes.
• Engineer solutions to meet availability, scalability, performance, security, and compliance requirements.
• Integrate infrastructure and platforms with DevOps and DevSecOps pipelines and processes.
• Troubleshoot complex issues spanning infrastructure, platforms, databases, networks, and applications.
• Perform root‑cause analysis and drive technical issues through resolution.
• Collaborate across application, infrastructure, cloud, security, network, and mission teams to resolve system‑level problems.
• Develop architecture diagrams, engineering documentation, technical standards, implementation plans, and operational documentation.
• Brief technical and program leadership on system status, risks, recommendations, and technical decisions.

Required Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.
• Significant hands‑on systems engineering experience within complex enterprise or mission environments.
• Strong understanding of infrastructure technologies including networking, compute, storage, and operating systems.
• Experience working across middleware, database, platform, and application environments.
• Experience analyzing and documenting existing system architectures and dependencies.
• Experience developing detailed engineering designs and implementation plans.
• Experience implementing, migrating, upgrading, or modernizing enterprise systems.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and cloud‑based architectures.
• Understanding of system availability, scalability, performance, security, and compliance requirements.
• Experience integrating infrastructure and platforms with DevOps or DevSecOps pipelines.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across multiple layers of the technology stack.
• Experience developing technical documentation and architecture diagrams.
• Ability to communicate effectively with both technical teams and leadership.
• Ability to translate complex technical issues into mission and business impact.
