Job summary

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Systems Engineer SME to support a federal program focused on enterprise infrastructure modernization and secure technology delivery at Fort Belvoir, VA.

The Systems Engineer SME will guide complex IT initiatives from requirements gathering through implementation and transition to operations, working with program leadership, customers, and technical teams to deliver sustainable capabilities and strengthen enterprise services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Systems Engineering, or related discipline.
• 15+ years of enterprise IT experience.
• Strong knowledge of Active Directory services, Group Policy, DNS, and policy management.
• Experience supporting PKI solutions.
• Proficiency with Ansible Automation Platform, PowerShell, and DevOps pipelines.
• Experience with IAM/ ICAM and enterprise visibility.
• Windows and Linux operating systems experience.
• Experience applying systems engineering processes and requirements analysis.
• Ability to produce clear technical documentation and train admins.
• Current CompTIA Security+ certification.
• Active TS/SCI security clearance and SAP access requirements.

Responsibilities

• Translate customer needs into requirements, architectures, and IT solutions.
• Lead projects through requirements analysis, design, implementation, validation, and transition.
• Partner with leadership and operations to address capability gaps.
• Develop architecture diagrams, data flow diagrams, and build guides.
• Provide expertise across AD, GPOs, DNS, PKI, ICAM, Windows and Linux.
• Apply PowerShell, Ansible Platform, and DevOps pipelines to automate processes.
• Evaluate technologies and conduct market research for engineering decisions.
• Improve O&M processes and train administrators.

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Systems Engineer SME to support a mission-critical federal program focused on enterprise infrastructure modernization and secure technology delivery in Fort Belvoir, VA.

The Systems Engineer SME will guide complex IT initiatives from requirements gathering through implementation and transition to operations. This role works closely with program leadership, customers, and technical teams to deliver sustainable capabilities, strengthen enterprise services, and improve operational efficiency.

Responsibilities for the Systems Engineer SME include:

• Translate customer needs into technical requirements, enterprise architectures, and integrated IT solutions
• Lead projects through requirements analysis, solution design, implementation, validation, and transition to operations
• Partner with program leadership and operations teams to address capability gaps and ensure solutions remain supportable after deployment
• Develop architecture diagrams, data flow diagrams, implementation plans, and detailed build guides
• Provide technical expertise across Active Directory, GPOs, DNS, PKI, ICAM, and Windows and Linux environments
• Apply PowerShell, Ansible Automation Platform, and DevOps pipelines to automate processes and improve consistency
• Evaluate technologies and conduct market research to inform engineering decisions
• Improve Operations and Maintenance processes, strengthen enterprise visibility, and train administrators on newly delivered capabilities

Required Qualifications for the Systems Engineer SME include:

• Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Systems Engineering, Computer Information Systems, or a related discipline
• 15+ years of enterprise IT experience
• Strong knowledge of Active Directory services, Group Policy, DNS, and computer and user policy management
• Experience supporting Microsoft and non-Microsoft Public Key Infrastructure solutions
• Proficiency with automation technologies such as Ansible Automation Platform, PowerShell, and DevOps pipelines
• Experience with Identity, Credential, and Access Management, enterprise visibility, and end-user services
• Knowledge of enterprise networking, compute, storage, and Windows and Linux operating systems
• Experience applying systems engineering processes, analyzing requirements, and evaluating technology solutions
• Ability to produce clear technical documentation, explain solutions to varied audiences, and train system administrators
• Current CompTIA Security+ certification
• Must have an Active TS/SCI Security Clearance and meet Special Access Program (SAP) access requirements

Compensation for the Systems Engineer SME includes:

Salary Range: $200,000–$225,000 annually, depending on experience
