Job summary

FemtoMetrix, Inc. is seeking a technically agile scientist/engineer to advance nonlinear optical inspection and metrology systems. You will assist in research and development, define system architecture, and test assemblies across subsystems.

The role requires hands-on optics experience, strong analytical skills, and ability to communicate results to management and customers. Expect international travel (>25%).

Qualifications

• PhD in experimental physics or related field is required or strongly preferred.
• Hands-on experience with optics.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with optical or electromechanical systems, automation hardware/software, or modeling.
• Proficiency with scientific tools: COMSOL, MATLAB, Mathematica, JMP, OriginPro, or PSI-Plot.
• Scripting experience Python or LabVIEW is a plus.
• Ability to organize troubleshooting efforts and communicate action plans.
• Industrial experience in semiconductor manufacturing equipment/industry.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is a minimum.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the research and development of nonlinear optical technologies, its supporting subsystems and applications.
• Assist in defining system architecture and developing requirement specifications and test plans.
• Review designs, perform prototype integration and testing of assemblies, subsystems and systems.
• Perform system and performance analyses to identify critical system parameters, optimize them and validate system performance.
• Troubleshoot issues at all system levels and help to find and implement solutions.
• Support subject matter experts and engineers in implementing and optimizing processes to ensure quality of manufacture, specified performance and on-time delivery of systems to our customers.
• Assist troubleshooting in the field (> 25% international travel will be required).

Primary Responsibilities:

• Assist in the research and development of nonlinear optical technologies, its supporting subsystems and applications.
• Assist in defining system architecture and developing requirement specifications and test plans.

Qualifications:

• PhD in experimental physics is desired, but PhD in mechanical/electrical engineering, chemical engineering or related disciplines may apply.
• Hands-on experience with optics.
• Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Must have demonstrable experience in working with at least two of the following:
• Optical Systems and electromechanical systems
• Automation Hardware and Software
• Modeling or algorithm development
• Must have strong diagnostic and trouble shooting skills.
• The individual should have experience in some aspects of semiconductor manufacturing equipment or semiconductor manufacturing industries.Proficiency in Microsoft Excell is a minimum.
• Familiarity with scientific and statistical analysis tools such as COMSOL, MATLAB, Mathematica, JMP, OriginPro, or PSI-Plot is desired.
• Experience with scripting languages, such as Python, or LabView are a plus.
• Ability to respond promptly to field and internal escalations with minimal direction, organize troubleshooting efforts, collect data, create and communicate action plans and follow through to resolution.
• Must be an effective technical communicator and provide executive level reports to FemtoMetrix management and customers.
• Industrial experience in one or more of the following:
• Mechatronics
• Optical / Imaging systems

Minimum Qualifications:

• Doctorate with relevant work experience of 2-3 years
• Doctorate with post-graduate academic research experience of 3-5 years
• Master's Degree with relevant work experience of 3-5 years
• Bachelor's Degree with relevant work experience exceeding 8 years
