Job description

An established defense engineering company in southern New Jersey is seeking Systems Engineers with prior naval combat systems experience to support the integration, verification, validation, and testing of advanced shipboard combat systems.

This is a hands-on systems engineering opportunity involving requirements management and traceability, system-level troubleshooting, and integration and test (I&T). Engineers will work with Rational DOORS and existing C++ code to investigate technical issues and verify performance across interconnected combat system components.

The work involves complex, mission-critical naval defense systems, including tactical command and control (C2), radar and sensor integration, weapons-system interfaces, and system-of-systems integration.

Why Join This Thriving Team?

This organization offers an unusual combination of technically challenging work, long-term stability, and a collaborative engineering environment where people stay and grow because they love it here.

  • Exceptional stability: Nearly 18 years without layoffs in its East Coast engineering operation.
  • Outstanding retention: An experienced team where engineers build long-term careers.
  • Meaningful technical work: Contribute to advanced naval combat systems and complex defense engineering programs.
  • Collaborative culture: Work alongside knowledgeable engineers and approachable technical leadership.
  • Work-life balance: A compressed work schedule with shorter Fridays.
What You’ll Do
  • Perform systems engineering activities supporting naval combat systems integration, verification, validation (V&V), and test and evaluation (T&E).
  • Analyze, develop, manage, and trace system requirements using IBM Rational DOORS.
  • Support requirements verification and system-level integration and test (I&T) across interconnected combat system components.
  • Develop and execute test procedures, evaluate results, and investigate system-level failures.
  • Read and interpret existing C++ code to analyze system behavior, trace defects, and support troubleshooting.
  • Investigate technical issues involving combat system interfaces, radar and sensor integration, and subsystem interactions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to resolve integration issues and verify system functionality and performance.
  • Document technical findings, test results, corrective actions, and requirements compliance.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Prior experience supporting naval combat systems is required.
  • Professional systems engineering experience involving requirements analysis, systems integration, verification and validation, or system-level testing.
  • Hands‑on experience with DOORS for requirements management and traceability.
  • Ability to read, understand, and troubleshoot existing C++ code, and suggest code improvements.
  • Familiarity with integrated naval combat system architectures, interfaces, and subsystem interactions.
  • Strong analytical, technical troubleshooting, and communication skills.
  • U.S. citizenship and current Secret clearance or eligibility to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Experience with shipboard combat systems, tactical command and control (C2), radar and sensor integration, fire‑control systems, weapons‑system interfaces, or system‑of‑systems integration is particularly relevant.

Qualified Systems Engineers with naval combat systems experience are encouraged to apply. This opportunity offers challenging technical work, exceptional organizational stability, and the chance to build a long‑term career with an experienced, long‑tenured, comfortable, "badgeless" defense engineering team.
