Job summary

B&A in Dayton, Ohio seeks a Systems Engineer with DoD IT experience to lead database and infrastructure efforts. The role requires hands-on provisioning, operation, and maintenance of servers and databases, plus regulatory compliance and documentation of systems and tests.

Qualified candidates will have 5+ years in engineering, DoD IT stacks, and DoD 8570 IAT Level II and Microsoft SQL Server certifications. This is a full-time position located in Dayton with an anticipated start in early 2027.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of overall professional engineering experience.
• At least five (5) years with DoD IT systems.
• Experience as Database Architect, Replication Expert, Encryption Expert, LDAP/Certificate Authentication Expert, DR/COOP Expert, Database Security Expert, and High Availability Expert.

Responsibilities

• Provision, operate, install/configure and maintain systems hardware/software.
• Provide technical support and hands-on delivery for databases.
• Contribute to R&D for ongoing infrastructure innovation.
• Ensure compliance with organizational values and regulatory requirements.
• Document specifications, project plans, configurations, test plans and results.
• Explain complex ideas to varied audiences and update teams on objectives.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for effective provisioning, operation, installation/configuration and maintenance of systems hardware/software/related infrastructure.
• Provide technical support, guidance and hands‑on delivery in the planning, implementation and ongoing operation of databases.
• The Systems Engineer shall participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure.
• Ensure that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values and regulatory requirements.
• The Systems Engineer shall document specifications, project plans, configurations, test plans and results.
• Depicts complex ideas, issues and designs to varied audiences; communicates project objectives, scope and status to project teams.

Education and Experience

• Five (5) years of overall professional experience in the engineering field.
• Must have at least five (5) years of experience working with DLA IT systems.
• Experience serving in the following roles/functions:
  • Database Architect
  • Replication Expert
  • Database Encryption Expert
  • LDAP/Certificate Authentication Expert
  • Disaster Recovery/COOP Expert
  • Database Security Expert
  • High Availability Expert
• Expert knowledge and practical experience within DoD IT database management technology stacks, including planning and implementing database and/or Application Server implementations.
• Demonstrated experience planning, implementing, and negotiating large-sized technology projects supporting business initiatives.
• Experience initiating, planning, mentoring, executing, controlling, and delivering working projects.

Required Certifications

• Current DoD Approved 8570 Baseline Certification: Category IAT Level II
• Current Microsoft SQL Server certification or higher

Security Clearance

• Active Secret, adjudicated within the last five (5) years
