Job summary

The Amatriot Group seeks a Systems Engineer to administer and support Linux systems in production environments, with a focus on Ubuntu and system health. You will troubleshoot, document procedures, and work across virtualization or cloud environments.

This full-time role requires an active TS or higher clearance and is based in Quantico, VA, onsite. Strong scripting, automation, and logging experience are desired to maintain reliable infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of Linux system administration in production.
• Strong hands-on with Ubuntu Linux.
• Experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure across OSes.
• Experience in virtualized or cloud environments.

Position Overview

The Systems Engineer administers, supports, monitors, and troubleshoots Linux systems in production environments. This role focuses on Ubuntu Linux administration, system health and performance, network troubleshooting, virtualized or cloud-based server environments, security fundamentals, and clear infrastructure documentation.

Key Responsibilities

Linux System Administration

• Administer and support Linux systems in production environments.
• Support Ubuntu Linux environments.
• Apply Linux system administration concepts to maintain reliable system operations.
• Use the Linux command line and common shell utilities to perform administration and troubleshooting tasks.

Infrastructure Troubleshooting and Performance Support

• Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues across operating systems.
• Administer and troubleshoot servers in virtualized or cloud environments.
• Support monitoring, logging, alerting, and diagnosis of system health and performance issues.

Networking and Security Support

• Apply working knowledge of TCP/IP networking, DNS, DHCP, HTTP/HTTPS, SSH, routing, firewalls, and common network troubleshooting tools.
• Support system security fundamentals, including patch management, access controls, SSH security, and vulnerability remediation.

Documentation and Operational Support

• Document infrastructure, configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and operational processes clearly.

Experience

• Experience with monitoring, logging, alerting, and diagnosing system health and performance issues.

Skills

• Solid understanding of Linux system administration concepts.
• Proficiency with the Linux command line and common shell utilities.
• Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking, DNS, DHCP, HTTP/HTTPS, SSH, routing, firewalls, and common network troubleshooting tools.
• Understanding of system security fundamentals, including patch management, access controls, SSH security, and vulnerability remediation.
• Ability to document infrastructure, configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and operational processes clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Docker and containerized applications.
• Experience with Ansible or other configuration-management and automation tools.
• Experience writing Bash or other shell scripts for system administration and automation.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
• Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and tools.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS.
• Experience administering web servers, reverse proxies, or application infrastructure such as Nginx.
• Familiarity with databases and troubleshooting application/database connectivity.
• Familiarity with centralized logging and monitoring platforms such as Grafana and ELK.
• Experience with scripting or automation using Python.
• Exposure to high-availability, load balancing, and scalable infrastructure concepts.
