Job summary

RTX's Collins Aerospace Helmet Vision Systems team in Cedar Rapids is seeking a Systems Engineer Intern to help develop next‑gen helmet‑mounted displays for pilots.

You will perform requirements definition, design, analysis, integration, test, and documentation, collaborating with multidisciplinary engineers.

Candidates must be pursuing a STEM degree and have 60 credits or junior standing, with eligibility to work in the United States. Relocation and internship benefits are available.

What You Will Do:
  • The Collins Aerospace Helmet Vision Systems team is developing the next generation of helmet‑mounted displays for fixed and rotary‑wing aircraft. Our advanced systems provide pilots with intuitive, real‑time situational awareness, day or night, by projecting critical flight, tactical, and sensor data directly within their field of view. From the F‑35 Gen III Helmet Mounted Display System (HMDS) to the new Zero‑G HMDS+, our technology enables pilots to see through the aircraft, rapidly identify and designate targets, and train with augmented reality. With lightweight designs, immersive high‑definition displays, and digital night vision, we deliver mission‑critical capabilities built on nearly 30 years of experience.   • Perform systems requirements definition, design, analysis, integration, test, verification, and demonstration tasks for advanced helmet‑mounted display systems
  • Collect and analyze data and troubleshoot issues encountered during lab and flight tests
  • Support the update, peer review, and release of systems documentation
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and learn from experienced engineers
Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
  • Must have a minimum of 60 credit hours or Junior standing by the start of the internship and remain enrolled through the full duration of the internship
Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Prior RTX internship, co‑op, or related work experience
  • Hands‑on lab, test, prototyping, or hardware/software integration experience
  • Experience using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C/C++, or Cameo
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
