Job summary

Apple is seeking a Systems Engineer for the Reference Image program based in Cupertino, CA. You will own key pieces of the architecture spanning hardware signing, on-device RAW processing, and PCC-based cloud development, and you will work across hardware, software, security, and privacy teams to deliver a secure, verifiable imaging pipeline.

The role emphasizes cryptographic key rotation, certificate management, threat modeling, and cross-team collaboration.

Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of industry experience.
• Familiarity with cryptographic signing/verification concepts and security/privacy collaboration.
• Experience with image/media pipelines (RAW processing, ISP) is a plus.
• Experience with distributed cloud infrastructure (PCC) preferred.
• Ability to coordinate across many teams and communicate tradeoffs clearly.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the systems architecture for Reference Image, covering sensor signing, RAW capture pipelines, and PCC development.
• Design and implement cryptographic key rotation, certificate lifecycle management, and revocation frameworks.
• Collaborate with Security and Privacy to threat-model end-to-end media authenticity workflows.
• Evaluate image container formats to support secure provenance and authenticity metadata.
• Coordinate with PCC/Cloud teams on integration points to scale signing and certificate infrastructure.
• Present tradeoffs in cross-functional forums and align with stakeholders across teams.
• Help scope and plan for future hardware generations under the DRI.
