Job description

About Us

At Autonomous Solutions, Inc. (ASI), we are at the forefront of innovation in autonomous systems, robotics, and automation technologies. Our solutions empower industries to revolutionize productivity and safety while driving technological advancements in construction, mining, agriculture, and renewable energy projects. Guided by our values-Simplicity, Safety, Transparency, Humility, and Growth-we are committed to delivering cutting-edge solutions that shape the future of autonomy.

About The Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Systems Engineer - Mechatronics to join our collaborative engineering team. This role involves leading the development of system and subsystem requirements for complex products, including autonomous systems and robotics. You will work as a key liaison between Product Management, Solution Architects, and Engineering Teams to transform stakeholder goals into actionable system designs, ensuring that product performance and safety goals are met.

Your Impact

Your work as a Systems Engineer - Mechatronics will play a critical role in defining the requirements and architecture for advanced autonomous systems and robotic solutions. By collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will help drive the development of products that improve operational safety, enhance efficiency, and meet customer needs. The requirements you define will guide the design and implementation of market-leading technologies in dynamic and high-impact industries.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead stakeholder identification and analysis for assigned systems; facilitate resolution of competing needs in coordination with the Systems Architect and Dev Manager; own KPI tracking through program milestones.
  • Own translation of product goals into comprehensive, hierarchically structured requirements; author detailed specifications and enforce requirements quality standards across the team.
  • Generate, maintain, and baseline ICDs for subsystem and vehicle-level interactions.
  • Lead the use of diagramming and modeling techniques to define and communicate system and subsystem structure, behavior, and interfaces; select appropriate models for the problem domain.
  • Lead requirements prioritization for assigned systems alongside the Dev Manager and Systems Architect; provide technical rationale for decisions and lead change impact analysis across subsystem boundaries.
  • Co-lead safety analyses (HARAs, STPAs, FMEAs) with Safety Engineers; ensure derived safety requirements are fully integrated into specifications.
  • Lead structured validation sessions to confirm requirements reflect stakeholder needs; track all discrepancies through to closure.
  • Conduct trade studies with SMEs, including make/buy/reuse analysis; evaluate new feature requests for feasibility and effort; provide recommendations to the Systems Architect and Dev Manager.
  • Actively contribute to ConOps development for assigned systems in support of the Systems Architect; define lifecycle requirements including operational transition and product sunsetting criteria.
  • Derive and trace requirements from applicable standards (ISO 15288, ISO 9001, ISO 25119, IEC 61508, ISO 34503, and others per vehicle/project domain).
  • Co-chair design reviews with the Dev Manager; own traceability and compliance disposition; review and approve test plans for coverage completeness.
  • Represent SE in business development and customer technical meetings; provide informal mentorship to SE I and SE II engineers.
Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a team player with a strong background in requirements management and system design who can bridge the gap between stakeholders and engineering teams.

Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4–7 years of direct, hands-on experience in requirements elicitation, generation, and management.
  • INCOSE SEP, CPRE Foundation Level (IREB), or other recognized systems engineering certifications.
  • Proven record of delivering requirements-driven work products through the full product development lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated experience in autonomous systems, robotics, or related domains.
  • Proficient in Agile or Scrum methodologies; comfortable managing requirements work across sprint and program increment boundaries.
  • Working knowledge of ASPICE SYS.2 (System Requirements Analysis), SYS.3 (System Architectural Design), and related support processes (SUP.8 Configuration Management, SUP.9 Problem Resolution) is required at this level.
  • Proficient in at least one requirements management tool (Jama Connect, IBM DOORS, or Polarion) at a practitioner level; experience configuring item types, relationships, or review workflows is a plus.
  • Experience leading or co-leading safety analyses (HARAs, STPAs, FMEAs).
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry and safety standards, including ISO 15288, ISO 9001, ISO 25119, IEC 61508, and ISO 34503; ability to derive requirements from these standards and identify when additional standards apply.
  • Excellent problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
Additional Preferred Skills
  • Knowledge of autonomous technology and robotics.
  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing frameworks and requirement management tools like Jama.
