Daimler Truck North America is seeking a System Architect within the Vehicle Level Engineering Department in Portland, OR. This role is responsible for owning and architecting system specifications for vehicle dynamics and trailers, coordinating with integration teams, and ensuring traceability across requirements and tests.
The position offers a hybrid schedule (4 days in-office / 1 day remote) and a starting salary range of $86,000–$110,000 USD, with a comprehensive bonus and benefits package.

We are looking for energetic engineer ready to develop the next iteration of industry leading Commercial Vehicles. This role has responsibilities of system owner and system architect.
The Systems Engineering (SE) team is responsible to intake development requests and process those through our Systems Engineering teams to deliver reliable, robust and industry leading features. This role will be a front seat to the entire development process of customer requests to product execution in vehicles. The ideal candidate will bring a fresh perspective to DTNA with a hunger for diving into our development process and having their fingerprints on all our products.

Create and maintain system specification or System Content Definitions (SCD). Derive system functions and requirements from feature, vehicle, and legal requirements
Collaborate with system integration engineer and component owners to align on requirements, feasibility and implementation plan
Define, maintain and align interface requirements with other systems
Contribute to the system vision by supporting function decomposition, function cuts, and holistic system views
Create traceability from customer requests and use cases through feature based functionality to functions in the system specification
Align test specifications with system requirements and ensure traceability
Support a structured and proactive requirements change process by maintaining traceability, resolving ambiguity, closing open actions and ensuring stakeholder alignment
Participate in early verification planning to identify risks for new and unproven designs to ensure alignment with established requirements
Apply system engineering lifecycle knowledge to prioritize work and deliver high value activities on time
Ensure SCD content meets Systems Engineering milestones, quality standards, and reuse goals
Lead function and requirement reviews and alignment with stakeholders (Component Owners, Architecture, Safety, Cyber, Test, Quality, etc.)
Develop system design solutions that satisfy the system requirements and fulfills functional analysis
Model the functional architecture, decide ECU (Electric/Electronic Component) and define signals
Generate alternative system concepts, architecture and design solutions
Implement comprehensive system architecture solutions
Requires a Bachelors Degree in Engineering (preferred Systems, Electrical or Mechanical)
Requires 2-4 years of relevant experience
Strong cross-functional communication and ownership mindset
Understanding of requirements and systems engineering
4 years experience working in systems engineering, E/E components and architecture
Preferred back ground with requirements management
Knowledge of complex systems, preferably vehicle dynamics systems
Experience with functional decomposition, interfaces, and system architecture
Comfortable working in model-based / ELM and JIRA driven environments
