Job summary

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) is seeking a software-oriented systems engineer to bring rigorous systems engineering to the CSS for ngVLA. Location is NRAO Charlottesville, VA, with responsibilities spanning requirements capture, interface definitions, and verification planning.

The role may suit a software engineer or a systems engineer with strong software background. You will work with system architects, software developers and SMEs to ensure traceability to project

Qualifications

Experience applying systems engineering to software systems.
Experience working across a project lifecycle from design to operations.
Exposure to scientific telescope or control software is a plus.
Excellent verbal and written communication with distributed teams.

Responsibilities

Lead systems engineering for the CSS within the ngVLA project.
Maintain requirements traceability between CSS software and project-level requirements.
Develop and maintain CSS software requirements and interface definitions.
Support verification through automated testing, CI and incremental delivery.
Document workflows and interface specs using MBSE/SysML or UML.
