Job description

Software Engineer II

San Diego, CA – Contract – 9/80 Schedule – $71.49/hr

Primary Mission

GPNTS is the U.S. Navy’s next‑generation, real‑time GPS‑based data fusion and distribution system for surface platforms. It integrates inputs from multiple navigation sensors to produce a dependable and accurate blended navigation solution for fleet operators. In this role you will contribute to the development and sustainment of mission‑critical software that delivers reliable PNT data to U.S. Navy surface ships.

Main Functions

This position requires onsite work and focuses on developing and conducting automated and manual test procedures to validate military GPS‑based systems. You will work in an Agile environment and perform verification and validation activities, including:

  • Developing and conducting test procedures to validate military GPS‑based systems
  • Experience with GPS systems
  • Troubleshooting software, hardware, and network problems
  • Developing system and subsystem requirements for complex systems by collaborating with subject matter experts
  • Working with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to resolve issues
  • Effectively communicating with leads and teammates on daily tasks to provide status, accomplishments, issues, and help needed
  • Onsite work in the San Diego facility is required
Required Skill Sets
  • Experience or knowledge of TCP/IP networking and switches/routers, basic electronic circuitry, and software scripting languages
  • Experience developing and conducting automated and manual test procedures
  • Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS)
  • Familiarity with Agile concepts and the Atlassian tool suite (e.g., Jira, Confluence)
  • Competence in peer review processes and configuration/change management
Desired Skill Sets
  • Ability to work independently and with SMEs, chief engineers, and other program stakeholders to make informed technical decisions
  • Candidates must have an active/current DoD Secret personnel clearance (PCL) to start, for which U.S. citizenship is required
  • Experience evaluating and mitigating technical risks
  • Experience with the systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements definition, analysis, decomposition, systems integration, verification, and validation
  • Experience reviewing technical drawings and requirements
  • Ability to work on rapid development programs or in fast‑paced environments
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Familiar with military systems, tactics, techniques, and procedures
Education and Experience Level Required
