Job summary

Leonardo DRS in Fort Walton Beach, FL, seeks an engineer for MBSE-enabled design, development, and testing of defense systems. You will analyze requirements, apply MBSE methods, and deliver solutions within budget and schedule.

Responsibilities

• Involved with the analysis, design, development and implementation of new and/or existing systems/sub-systems. May include Architectural Design, Requirements Engineering, or others.
• Determine system specifications and support hardware/software acquisitions.
• Design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems or subsystems.
• May use CAD/engineering software in the performance of assignments.
• Report progress and status regularly.
• Review customer specifications and requirements and develop designs to meet them, considering cost as a key design variable.
• Provide budget, cost and schedule input for design assignments.
• Specify and evaluate supplier components and services.
• Support design-to-cost and design-for-manufacture requirements.
• Develop prototypes to retire key development risks.
• Communicate clearly with team and customer as required.
• Participate in preparation of less-complex proposals.
• Provide technical knowledge to other engineers and staff.
• Support and reinforce the mission, values and culture of the organization.
• Attend engineering, customer or business meetings.

Job Responsibilities

• Responsible for technical activity and completion of assigned task on time and budget
• Design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems or subsystems

Job Responsibilities Part II

• Demonstrates familiarity with Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methods and tools (e.g., Cameo, DOORS), or a willingness to learn and apply these practices.
• Develops skills in applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) or advanced automation techniques to support engineering analysis and decision‑making.
• Applies hands‑on experience in subsystem development, including hardware, software, mechanical, and test components, taking ownership of assigned technical solutions.
• Capable of independently planning, executing, and leading smaller‑scale projects or technical work packages.
• Shows initiative in exploring new methods, tools, or approaches under guidance from senior engineers.
• Contributes to team knowledge sharing, including lessons learned, research, or prototypes in emerging technologies such as MBSE and AI.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field or equivalent experience and a minimum of 2 years of experience
• Competent technical expertise and application domain knowledge
• Ability to work independently

U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
